Chapter 29: Memory Fragments

“Why!”

“Why!”

“Why!!!”

“Why frame me! Why kill me! We fought side by side as comrades! Why…”

“Why?”

“We’ve wanted to say this for a long time… As the Chosen One!”

“As the Holy Messenger!”

“How could a heretic like you exist!”

“You, a Shadow… no, Chaos’s Chosen… did you think we didn’t know?”

“!”

“Let me go! I saved all of you! I defeated the first Titan Soldier, you bastards!”

“How do we know that wasn’t an act…”

“You attacked the moment we touched you, didn’t you!”

“So… die, traitor—no, Chaos’s spy!”

My body was shoved hard.

Powerless, I plummeted into an endless dark abyss.

In my final moment, I saw the malice of human hearts and infinite darkness.

From the start, they never saw me as a comrade.

I was just a tool to be used and discarded once my purpose was served.

Betrayal and espionage were the perfect excuses—especially for someone like me, wielding dark powers.

The surrounding demons mocked me mercilessly, their malicious energy tearing at my body, eager to bury me with them.

“Hahaha! So that’s how it is!? Fine, I curse you! I curse you all!”

“If you’ve cast me into Chaos, then I’ll walk with Chaos!”

“One day… I’ll tear apart all your glory!!!”

“I… look forward to that day, you hypocrites!!!!”

In my final moment, I roared hysterically, but the Chaos around me engulfed my body. The hypocrites above likely only saw my eerie smile, hearing none of my words.

Then, everything vanished into Chaos.

“…?!”

Jolting awake as if from a deadly illness, I sat up in bed, my face blank with confusion as I scanned the room.

The room was still as messy as a month ago, filled with useless junk I hadn’t bothered to clean.

It had been nearly a month since delivering the potion to Gu Xuanyun.

This month, I’d been grinding through three potion commissions while training my mental energy and physical stamina. Compared to when I first woke, my body had gained some weight.

Still a scrawny beanpole, but no longer frail and haggard.

Yet, this month, fragments of my past life’s memories surfaced intermittently.

“…Was that… my past life’s memory?”

I sat on the bed, dazed, then rubbed my head.

“…Feels like I was betrayed and killed.”

I blinked, piecing together the chaotic memory fragments.

But what exactly happened?

I couldn’t recall—the memories were too vague.

I’d lost too much of my past life’s memories. Even these fragments weren’t significant.

Besides, it’s been at least five hundred years. Those enemies are probably… long dead?

I thought for a moment, then shook my head helplessly.

“Fine, at least I know I was screwed over and killed—but those last words feel… odd.”

What could I do? The information was too fragmented. I couldn’t recall my enemies’ names or identities.

Revenge? Against who?

Their descendants?

Forget it. As weak as I am now, seeking revenge against people as powerful as my past self would be suicidal. My focus is on raising these egg babies.

“Ha… alright…”

I yawned, stretched, and turned to the bedside.

The two egg babies sat quietly, next to a dull, energy-drained magic crystal.

“Sigh—these two are such gluttons… one crystal a week, that’s six or seven gold coins.”

I gave a wry smile, patting their shells.

One gold coin is a month’s salary for a respectable job in the capital. These kids eat a month’s wages weekly—and not from some low-end job.

Good thing potion-making only needs basic mental energy and relies on skill, or I couldn’t afford them.

“Alright, time to deliver the potions—then with the payment, besides buying next month’s crystals, I can get some gear…”

I stretched, planning the day.

First, deliver the potions to Golden Skull to complete the commissions, earning about thirty gold coins.

…Ten for crystals, fifteen for gear, one for daily expenses, and four for herbs to keep strengthening my body…

Perfect plan.

I took a deep breath, got ready, and prepared to head out.

As for the morning’s dream-memory? Let it go. I’ve got no time for that now.
