Chapter 37: Brothers and Sisters
Looking like a frail, unremarkable girl, I stood aside waiting for the mercenary group to pass, then continued home, hoping no more weird incidents popped up.
But then, a blonde girl blocked my path.
“Hi~ Can I ask for directions?”
Her blue eyes sparkled as she smiled brightly, asking in a friendly tone.
“Hm? Uh… sure?”
I glanced at her, a bit stunned but responding instinctively.
She felt… familiar, like I’d seen her before…
Wary, I raised my guard.
“Could you tell me how to get to the Golden Skull Auction?”
Only slightly taller than me, she blinked, full of energy.
I thought it over, figured it was harmless, and briefly explained the way to Golden Skull.
“Oh… got it… Um, sorry, I’m a bit directionally challenged. Could you show me the way?”
She blinked, looking confused after hearing my directions.
“…Sorry, I’m in a rush and can’t guide you. It’s close, though. If you’re lost, ask someone else.”
Despite her lack of suspicious behavior and her bright, stylish clothes, I refused to guide her and moved to walk past.
In a place like this, I can’t trust anyone. A moment of kindness could get me killed. Telling her the location was enough.
“Okay… thanks anyway.”
Seeing I wouldn’t budge, she didn’t push, shook her head, and walked off.
I watched her leave with caution, scanned for accomplices, and, finding none, hurried away.
“That was weird…”
On the way home, I kept thinking about her, feeling uneasy.
It was our first meeting, yet she felt familiar.
Something about her was off… not quite right. She gave me a bad vibe.
“…Whatever, forget it. Time to head home.”
Muttering, I rushed back—my egg babies were sending faint signals of hunger, even squirming slightly.
“Hey, hey, Mommy’s getting you food soon, settle down.”
Feeling the backpack’s movement, I whispered softly, and the eggs quieted.
Though still in their shells, they seem to understand and obey me… a relief. If these mobile eggs ignored me, I’d have a real headache.
But they’re getting stronger after each feeding…
After a few crystals, their movements have grown. They used to barely twitch, but now they can briefly float off the ground!
The first time I saw it, I panicked, quickly pushing them back onto the sofa.
It makes me more excited for their future—what will they become?
I don’t know their genders yet… Boy or girl, I’m fine either way. I just hope they don’t turn out with troublesome personalities.
At home, I set the eager egg babies on the sofa, dug through my storage bracelet, and pulled out a two-gold-coin crystal, placing it between them.
They tilted their shells, gently bumped each other, and leaned against the crystal.
It glowed faintly—the energy being greedily absorbed by my kids.
“Hey, slow down, no one’s stealing it.”
I chuckled at their haste.
Though they absorb eagerly, I sense they take equal shares.
They seem instinctively aware of each other, sharing the food I provide fairly.
It warms my heart—still in their shells, and they’re already sharing resources. They’ll surely be close siblings.
In this harsh world, surviving alone is tough. Having a trusted sibling will be a blessing for them.
