Chapter 46: A shudder
Exhausted, I collapsed onto my bed at home, too lazy to fully undress. Leaving just my stockings and a white shirt, I hugged my egg babies, wrapped us in a blanket, and passed out. When I woke, it was already the next day.
As expected, I woke up sore all over, barely able to move without wincing.
“Hiss…”
Grimacing, I cursed my self-inflicted misery.
Even staying still, my body ached, and I had no strength to spare.
Lying in bed, hugging my egg babies, I drifted back into a groggy haze after a brief moment of clarity.
Every inch of me hurt—a normal reaction to overexertion. But I didn’t mind too much.
I’m aiming for magic-martial dual cultivation, after all. If my body’s too sore to move, I can meditate to boost my mental energy. Even bedridden, I’m growing stronger.
After lazing in bed most of the day, my stomach’s protests finally forced me to sit up reluctantly and get some food.
“Ugh…”
Fresh from meditation, my head was foggy. Hugging my egg babies, I sat dazed for a while before my mind cleared.
“Phew… feels kinda good, though.”
Exhaling, I stretched slightly.
As the intense soreness faded, I felt my body strengthening. After yesterday’s hour-and-a-half grind, my strength had noticeably increased, and my stamina had improved a bit.
That felt pretty satisfying.
Thinking about it, maybe I don’t need to go out adventuring. Making potions and training at Golden Skull works fine—and it’s the most effective way to improve my current weakling state.
“Hey!”
I stretched, set the egg babies down, and hopped off the bed.
After sleeping most of the day, I had a strong urge to pee, so I planned to hit the bathroom and freshen up.
Leaving the eggs in the blankets, I padded barefoot to the toilet.
But just as I pulled down my underwear and sat on the toilet, a deafening explosion shook the air!
BOOM!!!
“Eek!”
Mid-relaxation, I jolted, my body tensing, halting my “release”—I nearly leapt off the seat!
“…”
My face flushed—I’d been genuinely startled, even letting out a slightly cute squeak.
…So embarrassing, and the timing was awful.
“W-Well, I don’t know what happened… but I gotta finish my business first…”
Mortified but alone, I took care of my pressing need, pulled up my underwear, and headed to the balcony to investigate.
…I’m so embarrassed. That sound nearly scared the pee out of me… well, I was about to go anyway.
I used to be tougher! How could a distant explosion freak me out this much?
It’s gotta be the fusion! Definitely!
It’s the original owner’s fault I’m like this! Well… not entirely…
“That bastard making such a racket! If I find them, they’re done for!”
Gritting my teeth, I blamed the culprit behind the noise.
Pulling back the curtains, I opened the balcony door and looked toward the explosion—thick black smoke billowed into the sky.
Clearly, something had blown up… and the direction… was it the Black Obsidian City garrison’s camp?
“…Enemy attack!?”
Stunned, I shivered.
There’d been rumors of other races infiltrating the city. The garrison claimed they’d driven them out, but clearly not!
Infiltrators were still here—and they’d hit the military camp!
Judging by the blast… they probably hit the armory!!!
Dumbfounded, a cold breeze hit me, and I shivered again, instinctively wanting to pack and run.
No way! I’m not getting caught up in a war!!!
