Chapter 56: Black Jade City Mutation (Part 2)

I crouched low, trying to scan my surroundings for the attacker, but the chaos and low terrain blocked my view.

Just as I thought someone was targeting me, a series of explosions echoed across Black Obsidian City!

In an instant, I understood—

Enemy attack!

But how!?

Stunned, I watched the distant crowd descend into chaos.

Squinting, I saw something chilling.

Blood zombies! Hundreds of them surged into the streets from nowhere, attacking civilians!

Screams filled the air. Some were torn apart instantly, while the “lucky” ones, bitten once, fled—only to spread the infection.

Ordinary people can’t resist the blood zombies’ corrosive blood. Those bitten would soon turn.

“Blood zombies… the vampires are invading!?”

Shocked, I gritted my teeth, made a snap decision, and scrambled back into Golden Skull!

The auction house had at least one Gold-rank powerhouse on guard. With my status, I could likely evacuate with them!

Plus, I needed a place to equip my gear!

This was a planned ambush. Vampires infiltrated over time, created blood zombies, and had casters attack from high ground while unleashing the zombies, plunging the city into chaos instantly!

“Miss Hidden Moon!? What’s happening outside!?”

Rushing back into Golden Skull, the supervisor saw my disheveled state and exclaimed, calling my alias.

“Vampires infiltrated. They’ve released blood zombies attacking the city—the driver’s dead, the car’s gone. I’m back to gear up.”

Wiping my face, I answered quickly.

“I’m leaving. What’s your plan?”

I looked at the supervisor, asking.

“…The rest of us don’t have passes and can’t leave. Plus, we have goods to protect, so we’ll stay and hold the auction house. Miss Hidden Moon, no need to panic—it’s likely just a small-scale disturbance. The city guard will handle it.”

He paused, then answered.

“…Is that so? Got it… Lend me a room. I’m still leaving.”

I fell silent, then made the opposite choice.

His experience suggested a minor skirmish. The initial attack was startling, but the city guard and garrison aren’t pushovers, especially after being on high alert. They’re likely already clearing the zombies.

But something felt off.

That eerie blood zombie from before… I sensed a powerful vampire in the city.

The vampires wouldn’t go to such lengths for a mere harassment.

They’re likely planning a massive assault!

I don’t know the frontline situation, but Black Obsidian’s no longer safe!

With that, I went inside, pulled out the leather armor and weapon I’d bought, and suited up. I thought they were a waste, but now they’re proving useful.
