Chapter 63: The Noble Squad (I)
I was deep in thought, observing the five city guard soldiers in front of me.
But before I could say more, Norsen spoke up.
“Sorry, Miss Su Mengmeng, we… have to save Captain Kriss.”
He looked at me, resolute.
“We don’t know who’s fighting that vampire, but we can’t just run now!”
“Exactly!”
Norsen declared, and the other four soldiers echoed in agreement.
Even if they couldn’t threaten the vampire swordsman, they could handle the blood zombies.
“…Ugh, fine. But let’s be clear—if things go south or look hopeless, I’m bolting for the south gate. Don’t blame me for deserting.”
I sighed, reluctantly agreeing.
I knew I’d struggle to reach the south gate alone in this chaos, and these soldiers were clearly loyal to their captain. I had no choice but to go along.
If anything seemed off, I’d grab my egg babies and run.
“I understand. Don’t worry, Miss Su Mengmeng—you’re not part of the military, so it’s fine.”
Norsen nodded, and he and his four subordinates turned, charging toward the commotion without hesitation.
I exhaled, trailing behind the five heavy-armored soldiers.
Who’s crazy enough to fight a Gold-rank vampire swordsman…?
…What if I could swoop in for a cheap win?
I entertained the thought but quickly shook it off.
No matter what, my priority was keeping myself and my egg babies safe.
With that in mind, Norsen’s group stopped at a corner, peering at the battlefield ahead.
We saw a group clashing with the vampire swordsman—
A man wielding a massive shield led the charge, blocking the vampire’s attacks with his door-like shield. Flanking him, a man and woman, armed with a greatsword and a massive blade, relentlessly struck at the vampire with their glowing weapons. Meanwhile, two other warriors wove through the blood zombies, cutting them down.
“…All Silver-rank warriors!”
I instantly gauged their strength.
And not just any Forged Silver—these were elite! Their armor and weapons bore faintly glowing magical runes—enchanted gear! At least two of them were near Gold-rank!
No wonder they dared challenge a vampire swordsman. This squad was likely composed of noble heirs—only such backgrounds could afford this level of strength and equipment!
“Let’s go!”
Seeing the situation looked promising, Norsen’s group made their decision, charging out to join the fight against the zombies.
“City guard heavy squad, here to assist!”
Norsen led, smashing a zombie’s head with his shield and decapitating another with his sword.
“Big help! Leave the zombies to the soldiers!”
A dual-wielding female warrior, weaving through the zombies, spotted Norsen’s group. Her eyes lit up as she leapt into the air, joining the fight against the vampire, leaving a shield-and-sword-wielding man to handle the remaining zombies.
