Chapter 91: Dragon Roar

In an instant, the air was filled with the sounds of battle.
Roars, screams, and the clanging of weapons clashing echoed through the space.
Within moments, the Thunderlash mercenaries and dark elves were locked in combat.

Caught off guard, the mercenaries were no match for the frenzied dark elves’ superior fighting prowess.
The battle quickly tilted in the dark elves’ favor, and it was only a matter of time before it turned into a slaughter.

But that had nothing to do with us.
The mercenaries’ fate meant nothing to me—my only thought was getting out of here.

Clearly, the dark elves had spotted our group of six, and they sent a squad specifically to attack us.
Metal bullets from firearms slammed into the thick tree in front of me, sending wood chips flying.
Arrows occasionally thudded nearby.

Thankfully, the dense foliage kept the dark elves from pinpointing my location.
With Katherine holding me tightly to the ground, I avoided being hit.
Still, being pinned under Katherine wasn’t exactly comfortable—her armor was ridiculously hard.

“We can’t stay here! Let’s move!”
Carter shouted, then stood boldly, raising his shield and charging forward, aiming to break through the dark elf squad and get us out.

“Mengmeng, get up! Stay behind me!”
Katherine didn’t hesitate, pulling me to my feet and urging me to follow.
Without a word, I scrambled after the noble squad, ready to break out.

Bang—
A sharp gunshot rang out—a red flare fired by the Thunderlash mercenaries.
Soon, more of their forces would likely arrive.

But just a few steps into our escape, a massive roar erupted from the distance.
“ROAR!!!!”

The deafening bellow froze everyone in place, bodies stiffening instinctively.
It was a dragon’s roar!

Yet, while everyone else froze, I didn’t stop moving, nearly crashing into Katherine.
The furious dragon’s roar didn’t weigh on me.
Oddly, it felt… familiar.
Even my two egg babies trembled slightly—whether from fear or something else, I couldn’t tell.

“A dragon?!”
The dark elves and Thunderlash mercenaries were stunned.

This was the northern frontier of the human empire, far from the Dragon Kingdom.
Why would a dragon appear here, let alone unleash such an enraged roar?
What was going on?

My quick mind raced with possibilities, but the priority was escaping and shaking off the dark elves’ attacks.
The noble squad snapped back to action, seizing the moment when the dark elves were distracted by the dragon’s roar.
They sprinted forward, swiftly cutting down or knocking aside any dark elves in their path, leading me as we fled.
