Chapter 40: Do good people deserve to be bullied?

As Suna clapped her hands, the gang thug leader, briefly knocked out by her hand chop, staggered to his feet and confronted her.

“Who the hell are you? How dare you mess with us…”

“Hm?”

Suna tilted her head, her overwhelming aura and eager combat intent silencing him mid-sentence.

The hooded man, meanwhile, grumbled in confusion.

“Why’d you hit everyone? And that outfit’s weird for a saintess!”

Though mildly annoyed, he spoke cautiously, recognizing from her restrained strike that Suna far outclassed them.

The red-dressed woman glared, defiant but silent, refraining from acting rashly.

“You’re hardly one to judge my fashion,” Suna retorted.

Glancing at the three lingering gang thugs, she tossed them a healing potion.

“Here’s an apology for the beating, but keep the noise down next time, or you’ll meet more trouble like me.”

Her mix of amusement and menace prompted the gang leader to wisely accept the “apology,” helping his comrades retreat swiftly.

Gang members, despite their loyalty, wouldn’t risk a hopeless fight.

“Saintess, you let the bad guys go! Doesn’t your conscience bother you?” the red-dressed woman snapped.

“Oh, please. If I hadn’t stepped in, you’d be facing more than three.”

Suna waved a hand, revealing a scene outside: seven or eight armed gang members clustering around the retreating leader, talking.

“And you two, dragging out a revenge plot. Are you weak or just holding back? You can’t read the situation, and your methods are childish. Hard to believe you’re this old and still so naive. Hmph.”

Her mocking words made both the hooded man and the red-dressed woman freeze.

Golden light enveloped them, healing their wounds instantly.

“Adventure’s over. Go home.”

At her words, both, as if their secrets were exposed, fled the restaurant without lingering.

Amid the wreckage, Suna sighed subtly and approached the counter to pay.

“Manager, I’d like to settle my bill.”

The manager, still gripping his shotgun, looked sour, hesitating.

“Uh… with all this damage, it’s…”

“What, you want a good person like me to cover your losses? Do good guys deserve to be taken advantage of? Or is a saintess an easy mark?”

Her rapid-fire questions made him wave his hands frantically.

“No, no, I wouldn’t dare!”

Easing his tension with a laugh, Suna paid the exact meal cost and left two healing potions.

“Haha, just kidding. Here’s the meal money and two potions I ‘dropped.’ See you.”

Before the manager could process her meaning, she was gone.

He realized the potions’ value more than covered his losses.

After lunch, Suna planned her next steps.

Considering Skoll’s combat-ready silver-tier strength, she decided to investigate monster hunting grounds around Blackmount City.

As a demon agent, she knew the city’s power dynamics, industries, and strategic areas but little about its monster distribution, as Blackmount wasn’t a dungeon-focused city.

“First, the Adventurers’ Guild. Hm, I should have a card somewhere…”

Muttering, Suna, a prepared agent, had registered both a temple ID and an adventurer card for emergencies.

Though seemingly redundant, it saved her trouble now, though finding the card in her cluttered enchanted bag took effort.

“This knight-priestess outfit with this bag looks odd… Maybe I’ll tweak it.”

Suna transformed her bag into a side pouch on her belt, balancing it with the longsword on her left.

Heading to Blackmount’s Adventurers’ Guild, she passed through its grand doors into the bustling hall.

Ignoring staff and adventurers, she went straight to the mission board, projected by magic.

“Hm, not many monster-related quests, and the threats are low-level,” she muttered, scanning the listings.

Some adventurers noticed her, casting curious glances.

Bolder ones approached, inviting her to join their teams, knowing saintesses were prized in adventuring parties.

Prepared, Suna deflected their offers with flawless tact.
