Chapter 5: Cafeteria Struggles and a Name to Come
Gu Yunfei used his tiny hands to pry at the wall hiding the serving hatch.
But his small hands lacked strength.
The wall tightly encased the hatch, and if he wasn’t careful, it would snap back shut.
“Damn it, school hasn’t even started, and I can’t even eat. What’ll happen when I actually go to school?”
Gu Yunfei gripped the wall, glaring angrily at Liu Hongmei.
“If you can’t cook, don’t bother. And if you do, you won’t let me eat? What’s that about?”
Though he couldn’t say all this, his eyes conveyed his frustration toward Liu Hongmei.
Liu Hongmei’s face flushed with embarrassment.
“If your hands don’t work, use your mouth too. The food’s right there—will you starve?”
“That’s what you said!”
Gu Yunfei shot her a look that carried those words.
He took a deep breath, closing his eyes to recall his university cafeteria days.
His hands slowly reached into the wall’s narrow gap, propping it open.
His head moved closer, staring directly at the pretty cafeteria sister!
The cafeteria sister held a large ladle filled with food.
Each time Gu Yunfei opened his mouth, she pulled the food back.
“F*ck, you dare tease me?”
Gu Yunfei leaned in again.
The cafeteria sister brought the food closer once more.
Just as he was about to open his mouth, his left hand shot forward, yanking the cafeteria sister out of the serving window.
She looked at Gu Yunfei awkwardly, not expecting him to be so cunning.
Gu Yunfei smirked, opened his mouth wide, and went straight for the food.
“Ah—”
This bite had no finesse, only raw effort.
The cafeteria sister, half-pulled out of the window, looked heartbroken as the food in the ladle dwindled.
“Stop, stop eating. There’ll be none left.”
Her eyes conveyed her distress.
Gu Yunfei wasn’t having it.
“I haven’t even started school, and you’re upset about me eating? What happens when I do go to school? Will I starve?”
“No, no, when you start school, I’ll give you more.”
Her eyes were full of certainty.
Gu Yunfei gave a dismissive smirk.
“If I’m in school, I won’t eat here. I’ll eat out—at the tofu shop, the clothing store, anywhere but here!”
“No way!”
The cafeteria sister’s eyes flared with anger.
“You can only eat mine. No one else’s!”
“Hmph! That depends on your performance. There’s another cafeteria window I haven’t tried. If she doesn’t resist, I might consider eating here more.”
Gu Yunfei gripped her hand, his eyes threatening.
“No, no, as long as you eat at my cafeteria, I’ll help you open that other window.”
Her eyes were desperate.
“Deal!”
Gu Yunfei let go, looking at Liu Hongmei and shifting to a new position on her.
“What? You’re not eating? Why change direction? Did you finish that one?”
Liu Hongmei was already leaning against the wall, sitting weakly on the ground.
Gu Yunfei’s eyes told her, “I’ll eat wherever I want.”
His hands gripped the wall around the serving hatch again.
Together with the first sister, they pulled, and soon the second cafeteria sister emerged.
Gu Yunfei opened his mouth wide.
A jolt like electricity passed through Liu Hongmei’s body.
“What… what is this feeling?”
Holding Gu Yunfei, Liu Hongmei’s body shifted from leaning against the wall to lying on the ground.
As Gu Yunfei’s rhythmic sounds continued, her consciousness drifted, caught in the rhythm.
Gu Yunfei’s belly slowly swelled with time.
He patted it, looking at the two cafeteria sisters taking turns feeding him.
He said to them, “Do you know the cafeteria downstairs? I wanted to eat there, but it was closed.”
“Oh, that one?”
The first cafeteria sister rubbed her ladle against Gu Yunfei’s face.
“That cafeteria only opens when school starts. You’ll need to be in school to eat their food.”
“Is it good?”
Gu Yunfei couldn’t help but ask.
If the second-floor cafeteria was this delicious, the first floor must be out of this world!
“Well… our school’s been around for centuries, but the cafeteria is new. The second floor just opened.”
“I’m new to managing the cafeteria, so I don’t know about the first floor. But I hear it’s all seafood, so it’s gotta be good.”
The first sister nodded.
“Yeah, I’ve heard about it too,” the second sister chimed in.
“I heard the first-floor food is hard to get. You have to linger outside their window for a while, let the first-floor sisters notice you, before they’ll let you eat.”
Gu Yunfei nodded.
“Sounds like eating at school is pretty tough.”
He waved goodbye to the sisters, planning to head home.
Moments after he left, the second sister suddenly said, “Hey, sister, I think the first-floor cafeteria just opened.”
“What?”
The first sister covered her mouth, eyes wide, wanting to call Gu Yunfei back, but he was already gone.
Gu Yunfei opened his eyes, satisfied, looking at Liu Hongmei, sprawled on the ground.
“Geez, just for eating a little, you’re like this? What’ll happen when I start school?”
[Liu Hongmei’s current favorability: 95.]
“Not bad, the favorability went up.”
Before Gu Yunfei could wake the unconscious Liu Hongmei, Le Yushang’s voice came from outside.
“Little rascal, done eating? If not, come eat some more. If you’re full, come stuff some more!”
“No way I’m done!”
Gu Yunfei looked at his swollen belly, lifted his tiny foot—smaller than Liu Hongmei’s hand—and pushed the door open.
“Ah—”
Gu Yunfei tried to stand, hands on hips, striking a pose and pointing to his mouth.
But being so young, he couldn’t stand for more than a few seconds before collapsing to his knees.
“Damn it, if I can’t stand, I’ll crawl.”
Le Yushang saw his adorable attempt and scooped him up.
“Oh, my little rascal, your belly’s so round. Can you eat any more?”
Gu Yunfei, in Liang Dekuai’s arms, puffed out his chest, held up five fingers, then slowly curled in his middle finger.
In a babbling voice, he said, “Wu Zong Zi.”
Le Yushang was utterly charmed.
“As expected of my little rascal! But before we eat, there’s one important thing we haven’t done.”
Gu Yunfei scratched his big head with his small hand, wondering what was left.
“We haven’t given you a name yet.”
Le Yushang rubbed her old face against Gu Yunfei’s, grinning.
