Chapter 52:Rescue

The spiritual boat cut through the clouds, its silence heavy with unspoken tensions. Cheng Mo stood at the helm, her Golden Core aura tightly restrained, Frost Silence dormant but restless in her dantian. I blew it. Her devastating strike in Blackwind Gorge had shattered her low-profile plan, and the massive ice chasm left behind was a beacon to Canglan’s elders—and Liu Qingxu. The sect master will have questions. Qing Wan’s still pushing me away. The second curse, unnoticed, pulsed faintly in her aura, sapping her strength. I saved her, but at what cost?

Qing Wan sat at the boat’s edge, her sword across her lap, blood crusted at her lips. The talisman’s warmth had stabilized her dao heart, but Shu Yue’s overwhelming power lingered in her mind, a mix of awe and pain. She saved me—again. Her Silent Annihilation Sword Intent felt small beside Frost Silence’s might. I’m not enough. The curse’s remnants whispered doubts, but her heart stirred with a buried warmth she refused to acknowledge. She called me family. She gripped her sword tighter, her eyes avoiding Shu Yue.

Wan Qing cradled her zither, her gentle smile masking her calculations. Luyue’s strength is unmatched, yet her heart binds her to Qing Wan. Her plan to amplify the array had failed, but Shu Yue’s display offered new leverage. The sect trials will be my stage. Her divine sense caught the second curse’s subtle pulse in Shu Yue’s aura, and her eyes gleamed. A weakness to exploit. She plucked a soft note, feigning concern. “Elder, Sunny Sister needs healing. Shall I assist?” Shu Yue’s gaze was sharp but distracted. “Focus on the boat.”

Chu Yi stood protectively near Lin Xiaoxi, his Foundation Building aura alert. The talisman’s discovery had saved them, but Blackwind Gorge’s trap screamed Liu Qingxu’s involvement. Master’s exposed now. The council will come for her. He glanced at Qing Wan, her silence heavy. Sunny Sister’s hurting, but she’s not broken. Lin Xiaoxi clutched her wooden sword, her eyes bright with awe. “Teacher’s so strong, Big Brother Chu! She saved Second Sister!” Chu Yi nodded, his worry deepening. “She did, Xiaoxi. But trouble’s coming.”

At Canglan Sword Sect, Liu Qingxu’s spy delivered the report: Shu Yue’s earth-shattering strike, Qing Wan’s survival, and the array’s destruction. “Luyue’s reckless,” Liu Qingxu sneered, her fingers tracing a third jade slip, primed to amplify both curses during the trials. “Her strength will be her downfall.” She prepared her council speech, accusing Shu Yue of endangering disciples. But Elder Yuheng’s team, now back at the sect, shared the talisman’s findings with the sect master, casting doubt on Liu Qingxu’s loyalty. She’s moving too boldly, Yuheng thought.

On the boat, Shu Yue’s divine sense swept Qing Wan, noting her injuries. She’s stable, but her heart’s a mess. She approached, her voice low. “Qing Wan, let me check your wounds.” Qing Wan’s eyes flashed, her tone cold. “I’m fine.” But her trembling hand betrayed her. Shu Yue knelt beside her, her fingers brushing Qing Wan’s wrist, channeling a gentle stream of icy spiritual energy to soothe her injuries. “You’re not fine,” she said softly. “Let me help, just this once.”

Qing Wan stiffened, but the warmth of Shu Yue’s touch cracked her defenses. Memories of their past—Shu Yue’s guidance, her quiet care—flooded back, clashing with her resentment. “Why do you keep doing this?” she whispered, her voice breaking. Shu Yue’s eyes softened, raw with guilt. “Because I failed you once. I won’t again.” For a moment, silence held them, a fragile bridge forming. Wan Qing watched, her smile tightening. Too close.

The boat landed at Jinghong Peak, greeted by Elder Yuheng and the sect master’s envoy. “Elder Luyue,” the envoy said, his tone formal. “The council requests your presence. Blackwind Gorge’s events require explanation.” Shu Yue’s heart sank. It’s starting. She nodded, her face a mask of calm. “I’ll comply.” To Qing Wan, she added, “Rest. We’ll talk later.” Qing Wan looked away, but her fingers lingered where Shu Yue had touched her.

As the team dispersed, Wan Qing slipped away, sending a message to her ally: “Luyue’s vulnerable. Push the council now.” Liu Qingxu’s third curse lay dormant, ready to strike at the trials. Lin Xiaoxi tugged Shu Yue’s sleeve, her voice small. “Teacher, you’ll fix things with Second Sister, right?” Shu Yue forced a smile, her heart heavy. “I’ll try, Xiaoxi.” The trials loomed, and Jinghong Peak’s fate hung in the
