Chapter 1: Greed and Iris

Witches possess the power to change the world and are officially classified as infinitely dangerous beings.

The Greedy Witch’s eyes curved into crescents, her gaze filled with gentleness.

She slightly raised one corner of her mouth, slowly lifting her right hand while gently tugging at the black gauze glove on her left hand.

“Dear Miss Iris, there’s a terrifying pollution entity appearing over there~”

The Greedy Witch pointed to the massive disturbance not far away.

“Is it really okay not to handle it? If you leave it alone, many people will die~”

The Greedy Witch’s slightly lazy voice was like a soft, fluffy cotton candy, sweetly seeping into Iris’s heart.

The magical girl codenamed Iris tensed her nerves, her attention extremely focused.

When confronting a witch, one cannot be careless; even a moment of relaxation could allow an opportunity to be exploited.

Iris had been entangled with the Greedy Witch for seven days and seven nights, her body extremely exhausted.

A pollution entity suddenly appeared nearby, causing massive chaos, and many people had already lost their lives because of it.

But Iris couldn’t leave!

The woman in front of her with a delicate face was far more terrifying than the pollution entity!

If she went to handle the pollution entity, the Greedy Witch would definitely take the chance to cause even more horrific events!

The Greedy Witch slightly glanced at the pollution entity with her eyes; the commotion it was causing was a bit too massive.

Tall buildings collapsed one after another, crushing many people to death.

If this dragged on any longer, things would probably become more and more serious.

Perhaps it’s time to end it here this time; otherwise, my cute Iris might cry from the sadness of those irrelevant people dying.

After all, my pure and flawless cute Iris is so kind~

“Alright, let’s call it quits between us.”

The Greedy Witch kissed her fingertip and winked slightly, blowing a kiss to Iris.

“My cute Iris~ I hope next time we meet, we can have just as much fun.”

The Greedy Witch stepped into the purple starry portal that appeared behind her, leaving a smiling profile as she disappeared from Iris’s sight.

With the witch gone, Iris immediately began dealing with the pollution entity.

It was an extremely large, viscous creature, somewhat similar to a slime.

However, it didn’t look bouncy like a slime; it was just a lump of indescribable matter.

Crawling on the ground, any object it touched would dissolve due to the corrosive liquid on its body surface.

Several tall buildings had already collapsed because of it, resulting in countless casualties.

Iris immediately unfolded her magic weapon in hand, which was a pure white flower umbrella.

Gathering magic power at the tip of the umbrella, two seconds later, a powerful magic cannon fired out.

The air rippled in waves.

The magic cannon pierced through the pollution entity’s body, shattering the pollution core inside.

The massive pollution entity turned into a puddle of sewage, losing its vital signs and ceasing activity.

Buzz!

A buzzing rang in Iris’s mind; the high-intensity battle over seven days and seven nights was making it hard for her to hold on.

Dizzy, tinnitus, and a sense of weightlessness.

This was the effect of extreme physical fatigue and excessive magic consumption.

Iris landed on the ground, planning to find a place to rest and wait for her teammates to handle the aftermath.

Just as she leaned against the only remaining large tree, a wailing cry came from not far away.

“Waaah, how can I live if you’re dead!”

“Old partner, didn’t you promise me you wouldn’t go before me!”

An old lady threw herself onto a huge piece of rubble, crying bitterly.

Iris looked over upon hearing the sound, her eyes also showing sadness.

The pollution entity was handled too late, but she had no way to deal with it sooner.

The Greedy Witch couldn’t be left unchecked; a witch’s harm was dozens of times greater than a pollution entity’s.

The old lady cried halfway when the corner of her eye caught sight of Iris resting not far away.

She immediately stood up, her face filled with grief and anger.

“It’s all your fault! Why didn’t you handle the pollution entity sooner! Aren’t you a magical girl!”

“You were clearly nearby, why didn’t you deal with the pollution entity! You killed my old partner!”

With her relative dead, the old lady blamed everything on Iris.

Iris was a bit dazed; was the death of the other’s relative her fault?

Perhaps as a magical girl, she had the duty to handle pollution entities and protect ordinary people.

But when facing both a witch and a pollution entity at the same time, she couldn’t split herself; she could only prioritize the action that minimized the risk.

“Speak up, why didn’t you handle the pollution entity sooner!”

The old lady’s voice was loud, attracting nearby people who had also lost loved ones.

Their grief had nowhere to vent, and following the old lady’s words, they turned all the blame into sharp spears stabbing fiercely at Iris.

“Yeah, you’re a magical girl; isn’t it your duty to handle pollution entities and protect us?”

“Why did you come so late, why were your actions so slow!”

“Where are the other magical girls? Aren’t there three of you? Where did the other two go, are they slacking off!”

More and more people blamed all the sins on the magical girls, especially on Iris who was present.

Iris bit her lower lip, wanting to explain.

“It’s not like that, I…”

“What do you mean it’s not, you clearly could solve the pollution entity with one move.”

“Why were you still dazing in the sky without handling the pollution entity!”

“You killed these millions of lives!”

As soon as Iris spoke, her voice was drowned out by everyone’s words.

Her brows furrowed tightly, her face somewhat pale.

The buzzing in her mind grew louder; now she only felt her head hurting badly.

Iris closed her eyes tightly and walked toward the outside of the crowd; she wanted some peace.

Everyone had lost their reason now; no matter how much she explained, it would be useless.

This wasn’t the first time she encountered such a thing; someone would come to handle it later.

“Excuse me, please make way.”

Iris reached out her hand and gently pushed toward the woman in front of her; it was clearly a push with almost no force.

A terrifying thing happened.

The moment Iris’s arm touched the woman, the woman was directly sent flying, smashing heavily into the ruins, turning into a bloody mess on the spot and losing her life.

“Ah! The magical girl killed someone!”

“Run fast, she killed someone, she killed someone!”

Everyone shouted and fled in panic.

Iris looked at her own hand; she clearly hadn’t used force, and definitely hadn’t used magic.

Why did this happen!

“Everyone, listen to my explanation, I didn’t harm her, this wasn’t done by me!”

“Demon, she’s a demon!”

“Run fast, we’re going to be killed, run ah!”

Everyone’s faces showed terror; no one was willing to listen to Iris’s words.

Buzz!

The tinnitus grew more severe; she gradually couldn’t hear the outside sounds.

Her body swayed and fell to the ground, watching countless intertwined footsteps running away from her.

“Everyone, please believe me… I didn’t harm her…”

Iris murmured, her eyes beginning to blur and darken, finally losing consciousness and collapsing there.
