Chapter 11 :Brother and Sister Meet
The only people who could come and go freely were a handful.
Aside from her father who returned late every day, the remaining one was obvious.
“Speak of the devil…”
“Xiao Jiu, what did you say?”
“…Nothing.”
The room’s mood was heavy, but her focus stayed outside, wondering what he was up to.
“Your brother’s back. The sun really rose from the west today. Could it be because of you?”
“…Me?”
“Mm. Your dad says he almost never comes home.”
The woman looked at her playfully, leaving Xu Jiu unsure how to respond.
She was still thinking: she and that guy were mortal enemies.
If their original relationship was actually good, what excuse could she use to maintain her current attitude?
This gave her a headache.
She truly didn’t want to smile at him; it would make her sick.
“Time flies…”
“Xiao Jiu, Mom’s going to make dinner. How about your brother keeps you company? He should be free. You two haven’t talked since returning…”
“Ah, no… don’t!”
“?”
She blurted it out instinctively, then quickly regained herself, wondering why she was so afraid.
Bluntly, was it because she hadn’t escaped the shadow he left?
Even in a new body…
“Why? Do you hate your brother?”
“…”
“Then why…”
She shook her head.
Seeing no answer after long silence, Xu’s mother could only give up helplessly.
“Sigh, so hard to handle…”
Finally sending her away, Xu Jiu relaxed a bit, thinking she wouldn’t have to be so tense.
But she also hated her cowardly self; it meant she still couldn’t beat that bastard Xu You.
“So the biggest obstacle is me…”
“Can’t even face him, yet dreaming of revenge… truly laughable.”
Self-mocking, she wheeled herself out, hesitant.
“Be honest, did you do something to offend your sister?”
“Hah? Mom, what are you saying.”
“When did I offend her? Think about it—we haven’t seen each other in years. And… does she hate me now?”
Passing the hall in her wheelchair near the kitchen, she heard them.
One voice was all too familiar; the other…
She frowned slightly.
“Otherwise? Didn’t see she doesn’t even want to see you? In the hospital she asked about you, even spoke up for you. Now…”
“Ah? Asked about me? What did you tell her?”
“Of course the truth—that you’re a good-for-nothing delinquent, messing around every day, never coming home.”
“This… you really said that?”
“Was I wrong?”
Eavesdropping, Xu Jiu froze.
Didn’t expect them arguing over her; somewhat surprising.
“I’m done. Mom, didn’t think to save me face? Saying that in front of her—how can I face her now?”
“No wonder she ignores me. What do I do?”
Hearing his voice shift from confusion to anxious helplessness, Xu Jiu’s expression turned odd.
Never thought her hated enemy cared so much about face.
Like knowing he was awful but forcing a noble image—somewhat… hypocritical.
“If so, still your fault. Want me to lie to her? I can’t do that to my daughter.”
“Didn’t say that. Tch… never mind, don’t know how to explain.”
He sounded helplessly frustrated.
Then Xu Jiu heard footsteps.
She reacted fast but the wheelchair pinned her.
They collided face-to-face.
“Eh…”
“X-Xiao Jiu… you… why here.”
“…”
Xu You fell into indescribable awkwardness.
Under his sister’s cold stare, he felt stripped bare.
“Just passing.”
“Move, blocking the fridge.”
Her face calm, composed like she just arrived, giving Xu You slight hope she hadn’t heard.
Of course, he didn’t dare confirm.
“Need help? What do you want?”
He stepped aside then quickly offered, instinctively protective seeing her in the wheelchair.
Xu Jiu’s raised hand hovered; after a second’s hesitation, she surprisingly didn’t insist.
“Yogurt.”
“Thanks.”
She wheeled back a bit.
Xu You froze briefly, then handed it over.
“Thank you.”
Leaving thanks, she planned to return without looking back, but he didn’t let her.
“Wait, Xiao Jiu, heading back? Uh… can we talk a bit first?”
Her hands stopped.
She didn’t turn; to Xu You, his sister was aloof to the extreme.
Still, he steeled himself and approached.
‘What’s this guy want…’
Feeling hands on her wheelchair handles, she lifted her head calmly, staring at the somewhat shy person.
“Something?”
“Uh, nothing… just chat. We haven’t seen each other in years.”
He said sheepishly; she responded with a flat “oh.”
“You know we haven’t seen each other in years.”
Recalling the kitchen eavesdrop, she said coldly.
“Uh… yeah. I planned to visit at Christmas, didn’t expect you back so soon. Not saying it’s bad—I wanted to go to M Country before, but…”
Words stuck in his throat.
Xu Jiu ignored his explanations; more would only weaken her resolve.
Her goal never changed: make this guy suffer forever!
