Chapter 11: Training Room
Captain Leon’s eyes darkened with fury as he spotted a young officer, dressed in a crisp uniform, polished shoes, and a gold watch, arriving late on a magical hovercar.
His face clouded over, his gaze practically shooting sparks. Unable to contain his anger, Leon roared at Officer Buck, “Buck, what’s wrong with you? Late again! This mission was critical, and we’ve all been working our tails off. It’s already wrapped up, and you’re just strolling in now. Do you even want this job? Do you have any idea how serious the consequences of your tardiness could be?”
Unfazed by Leon’s outburst, Buck showed no trace of guilt.
Instead, he shrugged casually, muttering, “Captain, calm down. It’s just a student. Probably only picks on defenseless commoners. If he faced someone with magic, he’d be toast…”
Leon’s rage flared at Buck’s cavalier attitude.
Cutting him off, he bellowed, “You dare make excuses? What kind of attitude is this? Do you even understand your duty? Are you tired of living? Enough nonsense—go find the complainant and get all the details. If you mess this up again, you’re done!”
As Angus watched Eric being led away by the police, Buck approached her.
“Miss Elena, I hear you know something about Eric. Can you tell me more?” Buck asked, his tone serious.
Angus took a deep breath, steadying herself.
“Officer, Eric’s been holding people captive in our basement. His actions are… horrific.”
Buck nodded, scribbling quickly in his notebook.
“How did you discover this?”
Angus bit her lip, recounting her story.
“I noticed Eric acting strangely and followed him secretly. That’s when I found the basement… it was terrifying.”
Buck paused his writing, looking up at her.
“Do you have any evidence to back this up?”
Angus hesitated. “I don’t have direct proof, but if you check the basement, you’ll find something.”
Buck frowned, thinking for a moment.
“Alright, come with me to identify Eric.”
Angus’s body trembled slightly, a faint reflection of her inner turmoil. But she nodded firmly, her eyes resolute. “I’ll cooperate.”
Angus followed Buck slowly, each step heavy with dread.
At the police station, she blurted out, “Can I see Eric’s family records?”
Buck’s response was curt. “No.”
Angus put on a pitiful expression, her eyes pleading. “Please, is there really no way?”
Buck covered his face, feigning sternness. “No.”
Angus’s voice was laced with helplessness.
“Please, I’m begging you. I woke up with amnesia, and Eric, that murderer, claimed I was his sister. I had no memory, so I believed him. I still don’t know if I’m a captive or really his sister.”
Buck frowned, considering, then said, “Civilians can’t enter the records room, but I can bring the files out.”
Angus’s face lit up with joy. “Thank you! Have you eaten? My treat.”
Buck replied, “Not yet, thanks.”
He entered the records room, the door closing behind him.
Angus waited anxiously, her heart racing with anticipation.
Moments later, Buck returned with her file.
Angus grabbed it, her hands trembling as she scanned for useful information.
They then headed to the interrogation room where Eric was held.
Angus’s steps slowed, her nerves fraying.
Through the window, she saw Eric sitting calmly, unfazed by his surroundings. Her heart raced, her breathing quickening.
How can he be so calm? Has he destroyed the evidence? she thought, sweat beading on her forehead.
Buck noticed her panic and reassured her softly, “Don’t worry, miss. We’ll get to the truth.”
Angus forced a smile and nodded, but her fear lingered.
Suddenly, Eric grinned at her. “You win, I add 30 days to my no-torture promise. I win, you wait for me in bed.”
Angus averted her gaze, clutching Buck’s sleeve tightly.
Buck’s anger flared at Eric’s words.
He roared, “Eric, you’re in deep trouble and still making threats? Your arrogance won’t help you now. We’ll uncover the truth and make sure you face justice!”
His voice echoed, his eyes blazing with righteous fury.
As a young, passionate officer, Buck burned with a desire for fairness.
Turning to Angus, whose trembling form and helpless eyes stirred his sympathy, he softened his tone.
“Let’s go. We’ll wait for the investigation’s results.”
Angus followed him out, and Buck patted her shoulder gently.
“Don’t be afraid, miss. I won’t let anyone hurt you.”
He continued, “This must have been terrifying for you, but it’s also a chance for truth and justice. You were incredibly brave to come forward.”
Angus’s mood steadied slightly.
She nodded. “Thank you, Mr. Buck. I’ll repay you.”
Buck’s interest piqued, his admiration for this grateful, charming girl growing.
What would she be like in bed? he wondered fleetingly.
Smiling, Buck gathered his courage.
“Miss Elena, to celebrate this breakthrough and help you relax, how about I treat you to dinner?”
Angus hesitated, surprised, then declined.
“Thank you, Mr. Buck, but I’m not in the mood right now. I need some time alone.”
A flicker of disappointment crossed Buck’s face, but he smiled.
“No problem. Whenever you’re ready.”
