Chapter 12: Civil Engineering
Tang Yingjie then explained to Alice what digital currency was, along with basic knowledge about transfers and such. He couldn’t go too deep since he wasn’t a finance major.
These concepts alone were already enough to make Alice feel amazed.
“What a very interesting design. Was the inspiration for the magic currency system you proposed in our world also from this?”
“Pretty much.”
Tang Yingjie nodded.
“Unfortunately, magic is still too difficult. The theoretical system I designed back then could only be used by mages who know how to use magic. The system could only circulate among mages, which made it meaningless. It needed further optimization so that ordinary people could also enjoy this service. Sadly, it was never completed in the end.”
He shrugged.
He had also tried to change some things in the other world, but in the end nothing changed.
One person’s power was too weak. This was also why he had been so eager to return at the time.
Because it was meaningless.
But Alice didn’t understand that.
She still praised him.
“It was a very good idea and attempt. If I had time back then, I would definitely have helped you. Or if only you had stayed a little longer.”
She sighed with regret.
If Tang Yingjie had stayed a little longer, she had been planning to propose to him.
The wedding of the Hero and the Saintess would surely have been grand enough for the entire nation to celebrate.
Unfortunately, she had been delayed by preparing the magic materials to follow him to this world.
They had missed a grand wedding.
“It’s fine. The seed of the concept has already been sown. Time will nurture it and make it sprout.”
Tang Yingjie didn’t understand Alice’s regret.
He really thought she was feeling sorry that they didn’t create a magic virtual currency in his world, so he comforted her with a few words.
As a result, he saw Alice pouting and punching his shoulder twice with her small fist.
“Hmph, I don’t want to talk to an idiot anymore.”
Feeling the rock-hard shoulder under her fist, Alice’s face flushed slightly as she jogged toward the barbecue stall.
“?”
Tang Yingjie rubbed his shoulder with a puzzled face, not understanding what had just happened. Why did she suddenly get angry?
Sigh, women.
He scratched the back of his head, recalling the small action she made when punching his shoulder.
She really was different now.
He still remembered the Alice from the other world. She usually carried herself with dignity, kept a straight face, and spoke with a sense of pride.
Cold, arrogant, and powerful.
That was his complete impression of Alice.
A proper ice beauty and super god-tier teammate.
It was precisely because he had such a reliable teammate in the team that Tang Yingjie was able to steamroll the Demon King’s army and slay the Demon King within three years.
To keep this super god-tier teammate in good condition, he had always taken meticulous care of her and given her plenty of emotional support on the battlefield.
Even after every major battle, he would enthusiastically run to her side, praising her damage output while helping her pack up. Even when met with her cold rejection, he didn’t mind and continued shamelessly serving her.
For such a team MVP, firepower king, and pure gold thigh.
As long as she could carry the team, Tang Yingjie could shamelessly call her mom.
However, ever since she came to his world, her behavior so far had been completely like a young girl…
If not for the occasional cold and dignified expression she showed when going out, which still revealed the majestic and aloof bearing of the former Saintess, Tang Yingjie would have suspected that the one who teleported over was Alice’s younger sister.
Seeing her run to the barbecue stall ahead and stop, then turn around to stare straight at him.
Tang Yingjie understood now.
Although he didn’t know what mistake he had made to anger her, she was now giving him a chance to be forgiven.
This made Tang Yingjie start wondering if Alice felt embarrassed about him treating her, so she deliberately got angry to make him buy her barbecue as forgiveness?
No no no, Alice wasn’t that kind of person.
After denying the guess in his heart, he jogged over and arrived at the barbecue stall.
“Boss, clean up a table. Do you have a menu?”
As soon as he approached, he saw the barbecue stall owner enthusiastically greeting Alice. But obviously Alice didn’t understand a word the boss was saying.
The boss was even asking in broken English, “Do you speak Chinese?”
Tang Yingjie helplessly pulled Alice’s small hand and sat down directly at a small table beside the stall, then asked the boss to clean up.
“Yo, brother, is this your girlfriend?”
The boss came to the table, lifted the plastic sheet on it, threw it away, replaced it with a new one, and started chatting.
“Ah, um… she’s my classmate. She’s from the Maori tribe in New Zealand. They speak Maori there and don’t understand English.”
Tang Yingjie made it up on the spot.
“Oh, an international student? Brother, are you also a student from the University of Urban Construction?”
The boss placed a greasy menu on Tang Yingjie’s side of the table.
“Yes, I’m from the International Education College.”
“Oh, no wonder. Your college must have lots of foreign girls. But I rarely see one as beautiful as her. There used to be a lot of black people around your college though.”
The boss had a sudden realization on his face.
“Uh, there are indeed quite a few black people.”
Tang Yingjie picked up the menu and nodded in agreement.
Alice sat beside him, watching the two men chatting casually. She subconsciously reached out and tugged at Tang Yingjie’s sleeve.
“What are you talking about?”
“Uh, about your identity. People with blonde hair and blue eyes like you are rare here, so he’s curious.”
The barbecue stall owner listened to the two of them speaking incomprehensibly, his eyes widening. He then gave Tang Yingjie a thumbs up.
“Awesome, brother. You even know Maori. No wonder you got such a beautiful girl.”
“You flatter me. She’s just a classmate.”
Tang Yingjie smiled shyly, showing no guilt at all for lying in front of someone.
“Too bad my English was average when I was in school. Otherwise I would definitely have gone to your International Education College to find a girlfriend too.”
The boss sighed about the past while watching Tang Yingjie order food.
“Boss, you’re also from our school?”
“Of course. I’m a senior alumnus.”
“So you’re a senior. What major did you study?”
Hearing it was a senior, Tang Yingjie wasn’t surprised at all. Many small businesses around the school were run by current or former students. Especially print shops and equipment stores — almost all run by seniors. It seemed normal for the barbecue stall owner to be a senior too.
“What else? Civil engineering.”
The boss put away the menu and went to the grill to prepare the food.
