Chapter 13: “Lovers”

The rooftop wind whipped, flapping their clothes loudly.

“Long time no see, ‘Technician.’”

Dan broke the silence first, leaning casually against the railing, his demeanor relaxed but his eyes piercing through his glasses with undisguised scrutiny.

“If I recall correctly, your codename is ‘Lover’?”

The man called “Lover” snapped his fingers, his smile curving perfectly. “BRAVO! Correct, you get ten bonus points! As expected of one of Her Majesty the Queen’s youngest and most valued technicians. Remembering the codename of a nobody operative like me? I’m touched to tears.”

Lin Feng rolled his eyes internally.

Nobody? If you’re a nobody, the female cadres and fighters you’ve toyed with in the organization, plus their simps, would probably turn into skydivers or sun-dolls in protest.

“You showing up here means Her Majesty is finally ready to move against the magical girls at Saint Flower Saint Love Academy?” Lin Feng recalled the encrypted message from the organization a few days ago.

“Bingo.” Lover’s smile deepened. “Looks like Mr. ‘Technician’ isn’t just top-notch in tech but sharp on the situation too.”

“Then why not target the pink magical girl in the hospital first? She’s isolated now—shouldn’t she be the top priority?”

“Mr. ‘Technician.’”

Dan’s smile held, but his tone turned icy.

“You and I are merely humble vessels for Her Majesty’s grand will. Questioning her intentions isn’t what subordinates do. Or—”

Dan leaned closer. “Does Mr. ‘Technician’ have some grand insight on Her Majesty’s decisions?”

Lin Feng looked away, smiling faintly. “You jest. Everything for Her Majesty’s great cause.”

With Tao Gong Qi hospitalized, third-year Lin Yaoyao off on a closed training program with no return date, team leader Fengxiang Hong and the more mature Mizuse Kazuha worn out by the online storm over “Magical Girl Zero,” and as for that blonde heiress…

Lin Feng glanced at Dan, sneering inwardly. Hoshino Kirara was probably so smitten with this guy her combat strength was cut in half.

The Queen’s timing and targets were nearly flawless.

Dan straightened, resuming his refined teacher persona.

“Focus on being a good student, gather your intel, and enjoy campus life. Leave my work to me, alright? After all, it’d be a shame if those precious hands of yours, meant for precision instruments, got dirtied.”

Lin Feng raised a brow, catching the subtext loud and clear—stay out of it.

After Dan left, Lin Feng pulled up his file from memory. Under the codename “Lover,” a Ghost-level monster, two highly dangerous abilities stood out, marked with emphasis.

The first, [Heart Amplify], could silently detect and magnify hidden feelings of affection or dependence in a target, twisting and catalyzing them into fanatical devotion. Tailor-made for the brainwashing division, no wonder they kept throwing him offers.

The second—

Lin Feng’s eyes shifted, and he closed the file, his expression heavy.

Such a tricky ability… he’d need to prepare countermeasures fast.

To Lin Feng’s surprise, Dan actually played the part of a math teacher for a full week without launching any attacks on the magical girls.

But his popularity in Class 2-4, and across Saint Flower Saint Love Academy, skyrocketed. Every math class ended with a swarm of chattering girls crowding the podium, some even from first-year or middle school sections.

The enthusiasm and numbers could’ve killed old Suzuki twice over, brought him back, and killed him again.

Friday afternoon, during homeroom, Mizuse Kazuha walked in with a stack of flyers.

“Students, the annual campus culture festival is coming up. As usual, each class needs a program or booth. Any ideas? Let’s brainstorm now.”

In the back row, Dongfang Cheng, noise-canceling earphones on, cap pulled low, was fast asleep, breathing steadily.

Lin Feng glanced at his sleeping best friend, a bad feeling creeping in.

The girls immediately buzzed with ideas. Under Hoshino Kirara’s lead, most voted for a “classic theater performance.”

Lin Feng, alone, held up his meticulously crafted proposal for an “Immersive Magical Girl-Themed Café and Merchandise Experience,” complete with chibi magical girl art. In the lively atmosphere, it felt pitifully out of place. He lowered his hand, crushed, the proposal’s corner crumpled from his grip.

Damn it, why’d Ah Cheng have to sleep now? He could’ve doubled my votes!

“So, it’s settled—a classic theater performance,” Mizuse-sensei decided. “Who’ll handle the script and directing?”

“I will!” Hoshino Kirara shot up.

“I’ve got a rough script idea. Since it’s a classic adaptation, let’s do a tragic, passionate love story about a noble countess and a mysterious, handsome lover, overcoming class and societal barriers. Naturally, I’ll play the female lead.”

“Sounds promising.” Mizuse-sensei nodded with a motherly smile. “And the male lead? Any boys in class…” Her gaze instinctively swept over the only two guys in the room.

Why’s Dongfang Cheng asleep again? He was out cold during English too.

Following her gaze, Kirara scoffed openly. “Our class’s boys? Forget it. I’ve already picked the male lead. He’s seen the draft script and said he’s very interested.”

Right on cue, the classroom door opened. Dan walked in with his lesson plans, smiling.

Lin Feng’s mouth twitched. This guy was definitely eavesdropping outside, waiting for the perfect moment to make his entrance.
