Chapter 14: You wouldn’t want your contact to lose their life, would you?

The sedan reached its destination. Alice looked out through the car window.

Standing at the entrance was a waist-high, wide and stout stone engraved with four characters, filled in with gold powder that sparkled brightly under the sunlight — Weaving Brocade Hua Mansion.

After getting out of the car, Alice observed the surroundings as she walked.

The road underfoot had been newly paved and was very clean. The large trees on both sides wove a green net overhead, with fine sunlight leaking through the gaps in the leaves. Occasional breezes carried a rippling coolness. The buildings in the distance were spaced reasonably and looked highly designed.

As expected of the most expensive high-end residential area in Weaving Sunny City, with prices around 90,000 yuan per square meter. The presentation was clearly better than Shanhe Kangcheng.

While secretly marveling at the neighborhood environment, Alice suddenly heard herself being called.

“Senior, you don’t actually live here, do you?”

“Hm? Why would you think that?”

Alice turned her head and met Xia Xiaocheng’s thoughtful expression.

“Because Senior said you have money. Although I don’t usually pay attention to housing prices, Jiang He’s house is the most expensive in all of Weaving Sunny City. I thought when Senior was looking at the buildings… you might be checking locations.”

“You’re overthinking it. I’m not that rich. At most… I’m a slightly well-off working person.”

Alice raised her right hand, pinching a small gap between her thumb and index finger.

“Eh? Senior Alice is a working person? You’re not working at some family enterprise, are you?” Xia Xiaocheng didn’t really believe it. Just from how Magic Uncle’s incident had been handled last night, Senior was definitely not a simple person.

“Family enterprise… Your imagination is too rich, Xia Xiaocheng. My job is at most a little freer than others’.” Alice lowered her hand and looked ahead at the building, continuing, “Alright, let’s handle the proper business first.”

“Senior, wait. I’ll contact Jiang He to open the access permission.”

Xia Xiaocheng dialed the number. Soon the other side picked up, and a lazy voice came through.

“Xiaocheng… What are you doing… Calling me so early in the morning.”

“Jiang He, stop sleeping. Help me open the gate. I need to go to your house to find Little Mo! It’s important!”

“Oh…”

A “beep” sounded from the other end, and the corresponding gate automatically unlocked and could be pushed open.

“Thanks, Jiang He. Remember to tidy up quickly. I brought a big shot with me.”

“Mm mm… I’ll sleep a bit more. Little Mo will open the door for you. Just knock… Yawn.”

“Don’t go back to sleep, Jiang He? Hello?”

The call ended. No matter how much Xia Xiaocheng called, it was useless. She smiled helplessly at Alice.

“Uh, Senior, Jiang He gets up late. But we can meet Little Mo directly.”

“That’s fine. Let’s take the elevator first.”

“Okay.”

Xia Xiaocheng and Alice entered the elevator. Listening to the sound of the rising wind, they soon reached the seventh floor.

The elevator doors opened to a warmly decorated corridor. Intricate electronic fingerprint locks were almost standard for every home. Straight ahead was Jiang He’s residence.

“Senior, it’s this door right in front of us. I’ll call Little Mo to open it.”

Xia Xiaocheng took the lead. Alice followed slowly behind her. A faint blue light gradually rose in her eyes as she silently gathered her magic power.

Ding~

She pressed the button. A long doorbell rang. Xia Xiaocheng turned back and noticed the light in Alice’s eyes.

“Eh? Senior?”

“Block for me.”

Alice offered no explanation. She directly used Xia Xiaocheng as a shield, stepping to the side to avoid being seen first by whoever was inside.

Xia Xiaocheng didn’t understand, but after thinking about it, if it was Senior Alice, there must be a deep reason!

A few seconds later, the door made a cautious clicking sound. A fluffy brown little paw pushed the handle, opening a crack. A pair of bright brown cat eyes peeked out, scanning around before finally landing on Xia Xiaocheng.

“Yang Bao, you… you came alone, right?”

The liaison Little Mo’s voice trembled. Xia Xiaocheng glanced with her peripheral vision at Alice hidden in the shadows behind the door. The other party raised her right index finger to her lips, signaling silence.

With perfect tacit understanding, Xia Xiaocheng understood Alice’s intention and nodded at Little Mo.

“Yes, just me.”

“That’s great! Phew! I was so nervous.”

Little Mo finally pushed the door open wider. Xia Xiaocheng saw her liaison’s small cat face full of tension and couldn’t help asking curiously.

“Little Mo, what are you so afraid of?”

“Of course it’s Lady Alice! Last night when you went to fight the disaster beast, how did the mission get taken over, and how did you end up running into Lady Alice!”

Little Mo fully revealed herself. Her true form was a small orange cat with butterfly wings, a white bow tie around her neck. She held a napkin in her cat paws and wiped her face with it.

“Eh, Lady Alice. Little Mo uses such a formal title.”

“It has to be formal! You didn’t show any disrespect to Lady Alice, right? Yang Bao, you must never provoke her. It’s best not to have any connection with her at all.”

“Then I’m even more curious. Why?”

“Have you ever seen a magical girl who slaughtered so many disaster beast hordes that they developed psychological trauma, carving ‘never approach the silver-haired shorty’ into their instincts? Moreover, Lady Alice is a psychologically obsessive, extremely bloodthirsty, and outright crazy magical girl. Even a witch standing next to her would flee in terror!”

Little Mo spoke loudly, her entire cat fur standing on end.

Psychologically obsessive? Extremely bloodthirsty? Crazy?

Xia Xiaocheng simply could not connect the gentle, angel-like Senior Alice from last night with the dark-type magical girl Little Mo was describing.

“Could there… be some misunderstanding? Little Mo, are you sure Senior Alice is that kind of magical girl?”

“I swear on the name of the Spring Court, it’s absolutely correct. Wait… you called Lady Alice ‘Senior’? You didn’t form any further connection with her, did you? The magical girls who got close to her in the end all…”

Little Mo was shouting when a cool voice interrupted her.

“It seems the Spring Court’s evaluation of me is still full of rumors and slander, liaison Little Mo.”

Alice stepped out from the shadows behind the door. Her expression was naturally gloomy and unpleasant, her blue eyes radiating cold light.

“Eek! Lady Alice… how are you here? Yang Bao, you lied to me!”

Little Mo’s cat face turned deathly pale. She tried to fly backward immediately, but a blue hand formed from magic power grabbed her directly from the air.

Squeeze.

“Uwaa! Spare me, Lady Alice! I was just joking earlier! Don’t kill me! I’m still young, I haven’t eaten many delicious dried fish yet! Meow meow!”

Little Mo even started meowing. Alice looked at her with an amused expression, arms crossed. The magic hand lifted Little Mo like a chick.

“You’re even willing to meow to save your life, liaison Little Mo?”

“Meow meow meow!”

Little Mo no longer cared about dignity. Her big eyes begged pitifully.

“Senior Alice, you seem… to have quite a lot of history.” Xia Xiaocheng looked at Alice with a curious gaze.

“Mmm. Once I finish dealing with her, I’ll explain.” Alice’s tone toward Xia Xiaocheng was gentle. This point was completely noticed by Little Mo.

The only person who can save me now seems to be Yang Bao!

Little Mo immediately shouted for help.

“Yang Bao! You don’t want your liaison to lose her life, right? Save me! I’ll tell you everything, meow!”
