Chapter 18: Being a Girl
No matter how furious I was, I had to face this hysterical, obese landlord!
I braced my hands on the floor, trying to stand and reason with him, but before I could, he stormed into the room and slammed the door shut.
“Huff… huff…”
Panting heavily, he glared down at me on the floor, eyes wild like a beast in heat, unstoppable unless his desires were met.
Of course, there was another option—kill him.
He reached out his meaty hand, aiming to grab my neck and drag me to the bed, but I wasn’t about to let that happen!
In an instant, my mental energy shot like an arrow into his brain.
His hand froze mid-air, his face going blank.
Then, his massive body toppled toward me.
“Nooo!!!”
I screamed as the heavy figure crashed down—but despite my mind registering the danger, my sluggish body couldn’t move.
I was crushed under his weight.
“…”
The impact felt like it shattered my small frame, though his bulk wasn’t quite enough to kill me outright.
Still, it was overwhelming.
“Ugh…”
Pinned under his mass, I struggled to breathe. After flailing and using a bit of mental energy to lighten the load, I barely crawled out, utterly disheveled.
“…That was exhausting… ugh, disgusting…”
Panting, I caught my breath, revolted by the greasy residue his body left on me.
Worse, the stench of his body odor nearly killed me.
Without thinking, I rushed to the bathroom, washing myself with cold water despite the chill.
Shivering but relieved, I cleaned off his smell and grease.
Then, staring at the landlord’s body by the door, I fell into thought.
“How do I deal with this…?”
I muttered, planning.
Honestly, I didn’t want to solve things this way, but… he left me no choice. His reckless, threatening actions forced me to kill him to protect myself.
Recalling how he pushed me down with vile intentions, I shuddered in disgust.
What a joke! I may have a woman’s body, but I’ve got a man’s heart! No way I’m letting him touch me!
Arms crossed over my chest, I glared at the body, then, like with the mercenaries, touched his head, forming a tiny magic array in his damaged brain.
Yes, I’d handle it the same way.
But it’s still early. A body this big falling into a ditch in broad daylight would be too suspicious, so I’d wait until night to make it move and dump it.
“Phew… since I don’t have to pay the hundred silver coins now, I’ll rest today.”
Still shaken, I sighed, retrieved my coin pouch, and returned to the bedroom, collapsing onto the bed.
After this, I had no desire to work. The landlord’s reaction made one thing clear.
“I’m… a girl now.”
I blinked, curling up on the bed, realizing this fully.
Since waking, I hadn’t thought much about my body’s gender—too many pressing issues left no room for it.
Only now did it hit me: I’m completely a girl.
“Ugh… why a girl? It’s such a hassle!”
Rubbing my head, I felt overwhelmed.
Women face far more risks adventuring. One slip, and while a man might just die, a woman could face a fate worse than death.
I absolutely don’t want that. The extra trouble is a headache.
Thinking about it, both incidents I’ve faced were because I’m a girl, right?
“…Sigh.”
I sighed, feeling helpless.
I can’t exactly swap bodies… but at least this one’s an Immortal Bird, which is some consolation.
