Chapter 21: Renovating the mansion and making healing potions(4).
Meanwhile, the black knight setting out on his journey—named Julius—was feeling a pleasant warmth from Christina’s demeanor toward him.
—She’s a fearless woman.
He recalled the woman he’d just passed.
She showed no concern for his jet-black attire or the eyepatch over his right eye. Instead, she greeted him with a smile that lifted his spirits.
She must be skilled at treating others with respect and kindness.
Her well-tailored dress didn’t scream high nobility, but her demeanor radiated a natural refinement.
And, according to her, she was starting her own business. If she possessed such boldness, perhaps she came from a wealthy merchant family.
Mulling over their encounter, he arrived at the capital’s gate.
The guards, familiar faces, saluted and promptly opened the gate. Passing through, he stepped into the vast plains and grasslands beyond.
“Lord Julius, we’ve been expecting you. Your horse is ready.”
A guard called out. It was one of the soldiers, holding the reins of Julius’s trusted companion, a beautiful blue-roan mare. The guard respectfully offered the reins.
“Here you are.”
Julius took them, affectionately stroking the mare’s neck, calling her Schwarz.
“Here we go again, partner.”
Speaking softly, Schwarz nuzzled his cheek in response.
“She’s in good shape and spirits. Thanks for the care.”
Julius thanked the guard who’d brought her.
“No trouble at all. We wish you good fortune.”
“Thanks. Let’s go, Schwarz.”
With that, Julius placed his left foot in the stirrup, pushed off the ground with his right, and swung gracefully onto the saddle, settling his right foot in the other stirrup.
“Alright, let’s ride.”
He nudged Schwarz’s side with one stirrup. At the signal, she broke into a gallop, charging down the road leading from the capital’s gate.
