Chapter 21: The Phone

“The Greedy Wolf Gang? I’ve heard of it, but never looked into it,” the maid said, her expression so natural I couldn’t spot anything odd.

I pressed further: “Then why did the people who brought me back call… him ‘Boss’?”

“The Young Master runs a security company. The day you saved him, he was injured protecting someone. Want to visit his company, Zhixia?”

“No need.” I exhaled in relief, but my heart felt heavy.
Why would the wolf kill Grandma?

She was just an old woman who wouldn’t hurt anyone.
What gave him the right?

For five years, every thought of Grandma brought tears.
Countless times, I wanted to end my life—it was too bitter, too exhausting.
Yet I never bowed to fate.
Living under the same roof as the wolf was the real threat.

Back at the mansion, surrounded by high walls, a suffocating weight hit me.
I sniffled, stepping through the gate.

The wolf was in the living room.
Our eyes met, and memories of five years ago flooded back.
Like a startled bird, I lowered my head and scurried to my room.

Moments later, I tore up the note I’d found on the mirror.
As I started changing, heavy footsteps echoed in the hallway, each step like a death knell.
I dove behind the bed, curling up, burying my head in my knees, covering my ears, and shutting my eyes, blocking out the world.

The door twisted open.
The maid always knocked—only the wolf barged in.

At first, he thought I wasn’t there, but my ragged breathing gave me away.
He circled the room, finding me behind the bed.

He stared for a moment, his large hand grazing my wrist.
I exploded, raising my tear-streaked face and slapping his hand away: “Don’t touch me!”

I glared warily.
He stayed silent, holding a box in his other hand—a phone, looking expensive.

I froze, then roared through tears: “I don’t want it! I don’t want anything from you!”

What was this?
Imprisonment? Gratitude? A toy for playing house?
Was the phone a reward for playing his “sister”?

Grandma’s blood debt wasn’t something money could settle.
Without him, I wouldn’t have suffered five years of bullying!

My body shook violently.
His face twitched, patience gone.
He raised the box, hurling it at me.

My pupils shrank, eyes shut, arms shielding my head, bracing for impact.
The box’s corner struck my hand, making me groan.
Two seconds later, searing pain spread.

“Ah! Aaaah! It hurts!”

The agony in my fingers felt like my heart was being torn.
I screamed, rolling on the floor, gasping, nearly fainting.

The maid shouted from the door: “Young Master! Let her go!”

My voice went hoarse, saliva pooling on the floor.
My hand twitched, the pain so intense I wanted to chop it off to end it.

My heart was dead—beyond dead.
A crushing pain exploded in my chest, followed by choking coughs from lack of oxygen.
My throat burned, blood spurted, and dizziness left me limp.

My wails stopped, my mind dazed, awaiting the wolf’s judgment.
It didn’t matter anymore.
I’d clung to the false hope of Grandma’s return for five years.
Life mocked me, making me save him, bringing me to his side, unable to live like a normal person.

And still tortured by him…

The maid, sensing the gravity, rushed in, sternly addressing the wolf: “Young Master, did you think this through? You took her as a sister, not a servant to smile and please you. She saved your life!”

Saliva, tears, and blood mixed on the floor.
Seeing my state, the wolf froze: “Sister!”

Was he finally going to kill me like he did Grandma?

Five years later, the fear hadn’t faded.
I gave up, my eyes dimming, losing all will to live.
Warmth trickled between my legs—urine soaked my crumpled skirt.
Sounds grew distant, tears kept flowing.

The maid gasped, seeing my faint breathing, still as death.
Ignoring the mess, she crouched, lifting me: “Young Master… to the hospital.”

The wolf snapped out of it, rushing to get the car.
The maid carried me, hurrying through the hall.

The unopened phone box’s corner was slightly bent.
