Chapter 24: However, i refused

A Motherly Concern

Wang Jie saw herself as half-mother to Su Keke, sharing heartfelt talks, especially about her love life.
She knew Su Keke had one high school boyfriend—Lin Lu—and no other romances since.
Even in the entertainment world, surrounded by dazzling stars, Su Keke stayed unmoved.

Yesterday, meeting Lin Lu, Wang Jie understood why.
His stunning looks, two years younger, set a bar too high, making Su Keke picky.

Yet, she never imagined proud Su Keke would “give in” to her ex on day one of their reunion.
The only explanation?
They’d gone all the way back then.

How old was Su Keke then?

Clearly, Su Keke wasn’t as conservative as Wang Jie thought—shocking news.

A Misleading Clue

Spotting the colorful box on the bedside table, Wang Jie exhaled—some boundaries held.
Wait—nope!
The packaging was unopened.
What boundary?!

As a seasoned woman, Wang Jie’s mind raced.
Lin Lu likely sweet-talked Su Keke into “just a light touch,” then, promising protection, went full throttle when she was dazed.
Too late, she’d regret her “swollen” belly.

Su Keke wasn’t in a safe period these days!

Sighing, Wang Jie said, “Keke, you’re foolish!
What if you’re pregnant?
You’d vanish from public view for a year—at your career’s peak!
How could his charm sway you?
Kids now are a burden.
Even state mandates wait five years.”

A Hasty Clarification

Su Keke and Lin Lu blinked, baffled by her words.
Finally, Su Keke’s face burned red.
“Wang Jie, you’re wrong!
We’re pure—I’m still… you know…”

“Only one bed,” Lin Lu added.
“We just slept—nothing else.”

Last night, Su Keke’s “push me down” was angry bluster, not serious.
They slept chastely, not even holding hands.

Wang Jie’s eyes narrowed, skeptical.

Su Keke flung back the blanket, revealing pristine sheets.

Relieved, Wang Jie exhaled—her “cabbage” was safe.
Fans would rejoice—their goddess untouched.

An Unexpected Offer

As Lin Lu headed to wash up for military training, Wang Jie stopped him.
“Kid, want to join our company as a star?”

The question startled him.
He frowned, puzzled.

Approaching, Wang Jie spoke earnestly.
“Keke’s a top idol, you’re a nobody.
Even state-assigned, society won’t see you as equals.
You’ll soon be public, facing endless criticism.”

Su Keke’s eyes sparkled with hope.

Lin Lu paused, nodding.
“You’re right—a college nobody dating a superstar is ripe for gossip…”

Both women’s faces lit up.
Few could resist fame’s lure, especially Lin Lu, strapped for cash.

“But I refuse.”

His firm words froze their smiles.

A Firm Rejection

Wang Jie pressed on.
“Why?
No talent?
No singing or dancing?
Be an actor—your face alone guarantees ratings, no lines needed.”

“Exactly!” Su Keke chimed in.
“I’m acting too.
Us filming together?
Fans would eat up our chemistry.”

If so, she’d dare take roles with kisses or bed scenes, unlike her current safe scripts—like her film celebrating female friendship.
Not that she craved such scenes with Lin Lu—just work and fan service, of course.

Yet Lin Lu stood resolute.
“Thanks, Wang Jie, but no.”

Without hesitation, he headed to the bathroom, cutting off further pleas.

Join Su Keke’s agency—Zhuang Yan Yue’s turf?
That’s walking into a trap!
Her grip on him at school was bad enough—why let her control him off-campus too?

A Sweltering Ordeal

September’s heat scorched Tianhai University’s field, packed with green-clad freshmen like dumplings, sweat-soaked under the blazing sun.
Worse, senior students sipped cold drinks, gawking—double torture, body and soul.

“All rest in place!”

The order rang out, and everyone collapsed.

Lin Lu grabbed his water bottle—empty.
He’d forgotten to fill it.

“Junior Lin, have my cooling plum juice.”

A soft, sweet voice floated over, unmistakably a cute girl’s.

Classmates, buzzing about Lin Lu’s link to Miss Keke, now saw his luck ran deeper.

A Tempting Gesture

Looking up, Lin Lu saw Yi Dian Dian.
The petite girl, umbrella tucked under her arm, held a thermos thicker than her wrist, offering it shyly.
Her eyes dipped, wary of seeming biased, calling him “Junior Lin” despite their history.

As their class’s student guide, she assisted Zhuang Yan Yue with freshmen.
The role, held by seniors, paid a stipend, but early tasks—like monitoring training—kept her busy.

Lin Lu hesitated.
He wasn’t naive.
Every gift had a price, especially from an ex.

Favors bind you.
Last night’s seafood buffet from Yi Dian Dian cost him time organizing her event.

A Wary Refusal

Facing exes’ temptations, Lin Lu questioned their motives.
They despised him, craving his ruin—why act kind?
It didn’t add up.
Traps, all of it.

Take the juice—what if it had laxatives?
He’d miss days of training, score low, and kiss awards goodbye.

“No thanks, my roommate’s got water.”

Grimacing, he pushed away Yi Dian Dian’s juice, grabbing Fatty’s grimy bottle.
Fatty hadn’t brushed his teeth, but it felt safer.

“…Huh?”

Classmates, envious of the cute guide’s offer, gaped.

A bromance?
Rumors said chubby guys like Fatty were hot in certain circles—especially prisons…

Fatty sweated, panicking.
