Chapter 29: White Tiger Xuanjun’s Smile

Who could’ve predicted that, on the edge of a life-and-death battlefield, someone would be grilling meat?

Yes, grilling meat—over an open fire, no less.

The fighters, moments ago locked in fierce combat, saw this and nearly blacked out.

Was this something a human would even think of?

But if anyone’s composure was most shattered, it was undoubtedly Luo Chen.

He’d come here to confront Li Daming, demand Luo Jiutian’s surrender, and maybe secure some compensation.

After all, those killed were his dear kin—how could he let it slide?

But Li Daming, for some reason, lost it, and the Luo-Su alliance ended up clashing with the Li family.

Then, mid-battle, the Luo Jiutian he’d been hunting appeared out of nowhere.

And he was grilling meat?

Luo Chen’s face darkened, his knuckles cracking, rage surging from his chest to his skull.

Nearby, Luo Jiutian flipped his last skewer, inspecting it closely. Once satisfied it was cooked, he handed it to Li Zhongjie, who’d appeared beside him.

Li Zhongjie grinned, took the skewer, and bit into it without hesitation.

The two ate casually.

As Luo Jiutian munched, his peripheral vision caught a faint figure nearby, staring at his skewer.

A tall woman, expression aloof, her aura out of place with the surroundings.

White Tiger Mysterious Monarch.

He sent a voice transmission: “Senior, want some?”

She replied coolly: “I’ve long forsaken food. Besides, as a mere soul, what use is eating?”

Luo Jiutian nodded: “True, kind of a shame.”

He resumed eating, showing no regret or offering empty comfort.

White Tiger blinked, surprised.

After a moment, she said: “Brat, shouldn’t you say something like, ‘Once you rebuild your body, I’ll treat you to a feast’ or some polite nonsense?”

Luo Jiutian shook his head calmly: “Words like that, if said without intent to follow through, are empty. I don’t make hollow promises.”

Her calm gaze rippled briefly.

Then, unexpectedly, she smiled.

No sound, just a slight curve of her lips, her usually stoic eyes softening.

Luo Jiutian, about to eat another skewer, glanced up, catching her smile, and paused.

Since meeting her, she’d always been composed, with only faint emotional shifts—never this expression.

She reminded him a bit of Dugu Ningshuang.

Both were reserved, expressionless, and unaccustomed to showing emotion, but that’s where the similarity ended.

Dugu Ningshuang’s coldness was innate, unforced, without a story—just her nature.

White Tiger’s coldness, to Luo Jiutian, wasn’t indifference but a subconscious guard, like an invisible barrier shielding her heart, for reasons unknown.

He didn’t dwell on it, finishing another skewer and saying casually: “Senior, you should smile more. It looks nice.”

White Tiger froze again.

Her expression flickered with brief surprise before returning to its usual indifference: “Enough chatter. Figure out what’s next.”

Luo Jiutian said nothing, just kept eating.

At the battlefield’s edge, Xiao Yan watched him and Li Zhongjie, lips twitching, wanting to comment but holding back.

Li Daming frowned, deep in thought.

Su Zimo and Su Xinyan’s expressions were grave, but they made no moves.

Luo Jiutian’s sudden appearance made the atmosphere bizarre.

Then, an angry voice broke the stalemate.

“Luo Jiutian! You traitor, I’ve finally found you!”

The shout came from above—Luo Chen’s furious roar.

He stepped forward, robes billowing, aura commanding, eyes locked on Luo Jiutian.

Having just finished a skewer, Luo Jiutian stood slowly, brushing his clothes, looking puzzled: “Young Master, what’s this about? How am I a traitor?”

Seeing his act, Luo Chen’s eyes grew colder: “You, a Luo, joined the Li family, and you dare ask me?”

Luo Jiutian glanced at Li Zhongjie, then his own position, scratching his head: “I shared food with a Li—does that count as joining them?”

Luo Chen’s forehead vein pulsed, teeth grinding: “You know that’s not what I mean.”

Luo Jiutian’s face showed three parts hesitation, three parts confusion, and four parts bewilderment.

He turned to Li Zhongjie, still eating: “You know what he’s talking about?”

Li Zhongjie shook his head.

Luo Jiutian shrugged, looking back at Luo Chen: “See, Second Young Master Li doesn’t know either.”

Luo Chen nearly cursed: “Argh! I’m asking you, not him!”

Realizing he’d lost composure, he took a deep breath, calming himself.

“Whether you admit it or not, as Young Master, I’m duty-bound to take you back and stop your chaos,” Luo Chen said, resuming his righteous posture.

Luo Jiutian waved a hand: “No way.”

Luo Chen’s eyes narrowed: “Defying me again?”

Luo Jiutian said bluntly: “I haven’t done anything wrong. You’re pinning crimes on me. Even as Young Master, you can’t just make stuff up, right?”

Luo Chen’s face was cold: “You ignored clan bonds, refused to share resources, and now betrayed us. If I let this slide, how can I lead? How do I answer for our dead brothers?”

His words sparked an uproar, Luo members accusing Luo Jiutian of selfishness and disloyalty.

Some shouted for punishing the traitor, the scene boiling over.

Su family disciples joined in, their words full of criticism.

Li Daming muttered: “Seriously, Luo Jiutian didn’t join us…”

No one listened; the Luo-Su alliance was riled up, the situation out of control.

Luo Chen stood at the forefront, smug.

With the crowd and momentum on his side, he felt victory assured.

Luo Jiutian scanned the group, offering no explanation or defense, just a brief silence.

Then, he sighed softly: “Fine.”

The words hushed the crowd for a moment.

Su Zimo frowned, Su Xinyan glanced over, and even Luo Chen was stunned.

Luo Jiutian gave in that fast?

But before they could react, he surged forward, vanishing in a flash.
