Chapter 34: Sarcasm is a very particular thing

Taunting was an art, and Charis figured a race counted as a duel.

her dress to touch her belly.

Her normally smooth abdomen had a hard, warm dragon scale, detachable.

“I’ve got it!”

The moment Charis pulled the innate dragon scale, a massive jaw lunged, biting her skirt and yanking her down!

The Calamity avatar leapt, catching her!

“Ah!”

Charis was tugged off the tree, but she clung to the scale—her only lifeline, no matter what!

THUD!

She crashed to the ground, a painfully familiar fall, her backside aching worse.

“Hiss… ow.”

No time to rub her rear, Charis felt hot breath on her face.
The monster loomed, its fanged maw roaring.

ROAR!

No hesitation—it lunged, jaws aimed at her face, merciless.

Unlike when Ophelia caught her, Charis had a trump card.
Instinctively, she raised the innate dragon scale, its golden glow flaring white.

Buzz!

The light stung the monster’s eyes, but its bite didn’t stop.
Charis shut her eyes in panic.

“Light shield.”

Clang!

The curse wasn’t Charis’s—it was Talos!

Charis opened her eyes.
She’d never seen Talos’s true form, but the scale’s glowing projection showed a white-haired, horned girl wielding a white light shield.

“Stand! Stab its eyes with your dragon scale!”

Talos commanded, her form blurring as the shield faded—she couldn’t sustain it long.

Luckily, the Calamity avatar, blinded by the light, struggled to focus on Charis.

‘So the Demon King’s a white-hair too! Stab the eyes, got it!’

Charis ignored her aching rear, leapt, gripped the scale with both hands, and thrust it into the monster’s eye!
