Chapter 39:Weird Campus 8 Threat
Xu Nian and Shen Musi exchanged a glance, silently approaching the bathroom door, cracking it open.
A disheveled man and woman rushed toward it, slamming the door wide. The two girls darted aside.
No corners in the corridor, or they could’ve waited for the pair to leave before slipping in.
Yuan Shen and Qi Dong burst out, eyes filled with terror.
Caught face-to-face, both groups froze.
Yuan Shen spoke first, pointing behind, face pale. “There’s… a ghost in there.”
“No time to talk. Move!” Qi Dong glanced back in panic, tugging his sleeve.
They bolted for the classroom, their backs frantic.
A ghost?
“There’s a ghost. Let’s go,” Shen Musi urged, pulling Xu Nian’s sleeve nervously.
Xu Nian shook her head.
She’d come this far.
“Th-then… okay.”
Shen Musi hesitated only briefly before resolving to follow.
Their hands clasped tightly, Xu Nian felt her unease. “Wait outside.”
“No. Together.” Shen Musi’s eyes were resolute.
She’d overcome fear to stay with Xu Nian.
Xu Nian frowned, sensing a setup.
What were they fussing about? Chained together, they’d move as one regardless…
Shen Musi’s determination seemed genuine—Oscar-worthy if an act.
Clues first. She’d test Shen Musi later.
Creak—
The bathroom door eased open.
A wave of mothball scent hit, revealing cracked, outdated tiled walls.
Drip, drip, drip…
The sink’s faucet leaked, pooling water that splashed.
Xu Nian slowed, guiding Shen Musi inside quietly.
Once both were in, she shut the door.
Clang—
The chain struck the door. The lights dimmed, flickering, buzzing.
Shen Musi pushed the frosted glass—locked. “It won’t open.”
Bang!
In the flickering light, the farthest stall door slammed open, hitting the radiator.
Xu Nian gripped her dagger, stepping forward, shielding Shen Musi.
Shen Musi, clutching Xu Nian’s hem, peeked at the stall, curiosity in her eyes.
“Hee hee~”
A bruised hand gripped the doorframe.
A blood-soaked woman in a stained white short-sleeve and pleated skirt emerged, hair wet and tangled, face obscured, sinister eyes fixed on Xu Nian.
Arm, leg, foot… or head first?
The lights went out.
Darkness engulfed them.
A cold breeze brushed Xu Nian’s ear, lifting her hair.
She crouched, stabbing upward.
Squelch—
Something sticky dripped onto her hand.
Her phone’s flashlight beam cut the dark.
Under matted black hair, the ghost’s bruised face hinted at former beauty, her blackened mouth weak.
Her heavy-lidded eyes widened, a dagger in her abdomen oozing sewage.
Xu Nian stood, pushing the ghost back with the blade’s handle, pulling Shen Musi away in disgust, eyeing the dripping clothes. “You didn’t crawl out of the toilet, did you?”
She wiped her hand with a handkerchief, tossing it in the trash.
The ghost, shocked, touched her leaking wound, rasping, “How… why…?”
A ghost, harmed by a knife?
A fluke. She’d rip off her head this time!
Her icy glare locked on Xu Nian, lunging.
Squelch—
Xu Nian pulled the blade free, dragging Shen Musi back.
“Aaah—!” The ghost clawed with purple nails.
Squelch—
Another stab.
Wary, the ghost circled, then lunged at Shen Musi.
Xu Nian yanked her behind, meeting the attack.
Squelch-squelch-squelch— Three stabs.
“Waaah, stop! Please! I’ll tell you everything…”
The ghost collapsed, sobbing hoarsely, covering her eyes, tears mixing with sewage dripping from her wounds.
She hadn’t expected this. Normal knives couldn’t touch her.
Xu Nian loomed, blade gleaming, calm. “Who are you?”
The ghost trembled but answered honestly under the blade’s threat. “I… I’m Hanako.”
“Hanako, don’t be scared. Just questions.”
“H-heh… I’m… n-not scared.”
Hanako shook, the dagger near her face.
Xu Nian pointed to a bloodstain by the sink. “Not yours, right?”
Hanako nodded frantically. “Yes, yes! A girl’s. One sunny day, clear skies, I heard noise from my stall. Peeking out, I saw them beating a girl, cursing her. Said if she told, they’d make her regret it.”
She spilled everything unprompted.
Shen Musi squatted beside her. “Who beat her?”
Hanako glanced at her, pupils shrinking, trembling harder. “Three… four people, maybe.”
Devils! Two devils!
Hanako regretted emerging. Why not stay in her stall?
