Chapter 4: Philly’s Intuition
As a sword-wielding swordsman, having more mana than a mage—was that even reasonable?
Dolores anxiously paced around the room, unable to figure out how to burn through such an absurd amount of mana.
The first thing she thought of was using large-scale combat magic.
But there was no way she could cast those inside an inn.
The commotion would be way too huge.
And more importantly, she didn’t even know how to use them.
The only spells she actually knew were basic ones like Healing and Light.
Dolores briefly considered spamming Light magic all night and becoming a human lightbulb until morning.
But after looking at her mana bar, she gave up immediately.
With a mana pool this massive, she could probably stay lit for three days and three nights straight.
Forget running out of mana—she’d probably die from exhaustion first.
Then tomorrow, when Philly and Dailina entered the room, she’d become the first human in history to die from overworking as a lightbulb.
At that point, her corpse would probably resurrect on the spot and carry the entire planet overnight into another universe to escape the embarrassment.
No, she should leave first.
Staying trapped inside the room wasn’t a solution.
Dolores fastened her black cloak and walked to the window, pulling the curtains open slightly.
The streets outside were silent.
After confirming nobody was around, Dolores opened the window and climbed out.
She shut the window behind her before leaping down from the third-floor roof.
Dolores landed lightly on the ground and slipped sideways into a narrow alley.
This body’s physical abilities are pretty good.
If this were Xia, he’d need to cast protection magic just to jump from the second floor.
Otherwise he’d probably sprain his ankle.
Leaning against the wall, she started considering where to go.
Staying inside town was naturally impossible.
There were plenty of night patrol guards around.
If she caused any kind of disturbance again, it might turn into a full-blown chase scene.
Outside the town, though…
She could probably go back to the ruins.
At night, there were no guards stationed outside the ruins.
No matter how much noise she made inside, nobody would notice.
There were definitely still plenty of monsters remaining there too.
She could use the opportunity to kill monsters and level up.
And more importantly, she desperately wanted to know where the Blood Demon God Melody had gone.
She needed to return to the bottom of the ruins and investigate properly.
Otherwise she couldn’t shake this uneasy feeling.
Perfect.
The ruins it is.
Dolores tightened her hood and started running toward the outskirts of town.
There weren’t many guards patrolling at night.
Dolores quickly bypassed them and arrived at the edge of town.
Hiding behind a tree, she watched the final patrol squad blocking her path.
As long as they left, she could leave town safely.
The patrol group walked past.
Dolores stepped one foot forward, preparing to sprint out once they got a little farther away.
But after looking carefully, she spotted a familiar pink-haired figure among the torchlight.
Philly?
Why was she here?
This wasn’t in the game at all.
Why is she everywhere?
Doesn’t she need sleep?
Why is she wandering around with guards in the middle of the night?
Dolores immediately shrank back.
She had already witnessed Philly’s observational abilities back inside the ruins.
Every single time, Philly could accurately determine where monsters were hiding and quickly identify their weak points for instant kills.
Of course, that might have been because Philly had been reborn and already memorized everything.
But the game’s stats didn’t lie.
Philly’s Observation stat was significantly higher than all her other attributes.
Just now, the distance between them hadn’t been very far.
If Philly hadn’t happened to be facing away from her, Dolores might have already been discovered the moment she stepped out.
“Miss, our patrol is enough.”
“You should return and rest.”
The squad leader carrying the torch turned his head slightly as he spoke.
“It’s alright.”
Philly smiled and waved her hand dismissively.
“Even though we already cleared the ruins during the day, I’m still worried some monsters might escape.”
“Besides, I’m not sleepy anyway.”
“I’ll just treat this as taking a walk with you all~”
Philly blinked playfully.
“Well then, if danger appears, please retreat immediately.”
Hearing her insist, the squad leader stopped trying to persuade her and turned back forward.
A few days ago, a horde of monsters had burst out from the ruins outside town.
He had led his squad in resistance for several days before barely managing to drive the monsters back.
Afterward, the local lord invited three students from the Imperial Capital’s academy to deal with the monsters emerging from the ruins.
At first, he thought the lord was simply brushing things aside.
Their guards had trained for years and still couldn’t handle the monsters.
How could three students who hadn’t even finished school possibly succeed?
Yet those three students solved everything in less than two days.
The sight had completely dumbfounded him.
Especially the pink-haired girl beside him.
Normally, several guards needed to cooperate just to kill one monster.
But with a single swing of her sword, she could cut down several at once.
She was practically a monster herself.
Thinking about that, the squad leader silently broke out in cold sweat.
If danger truly appeared, it wouldn’t be them protecting this girl.
It would probably be this girl protecting all of them.
Philly paid no attention to the squad leader’s reaction.
Her thoughts remained focused on today’s events.
This time around, she clearly hadn’t changed any of her actions.
Yet deviations had started occurring from the very beginning.
Xia had been saved by Dailina.
And the Demon God’s aura inside the ruins had suddenly disappeared as well.
Most importantly, that strange intuition of hers had appeared again just now, guiding her to this place.
Every time this intuition appeared, something major always happened.
Philly trusted this intuition deeply.
After all, it always guided her toward encounters with cute girls.
So this time…
What kind of cute girl would she meet?
The moment she thought about that, all her worries vanished instantly.
Nothing was more important than meeting cute girls.
Who cared about Xia?
Who cared about the Demon God?
Forget all that.
First she needed to find this girl.
Behind the tree, Dolores suddenly felt a chill run down her spine.
Why did it feel like someone was thinking about her?
It’s definitely Philly.
It has to be her, right?
Does Philly seriously want to kill her that badly?
Dolores cautiously peeked sideways.
The patrol squad had already moved over twenty meters away.
Just a little farther.
Then she could make a run for it!
Crack~
The sound of a branch snapping rang out.
“Who’s there?!”
The squad leader reacted instantly, raising his torch and shouting toward her direction.
Dolores panicked on the spot.
Wait, that’s not right!
She hadn’t even moved!
Who snapped a branch near her?
But there was nobody around!
What do I do?!
I’m going to get caught!
In her mind, Dolores frantically came up with ten thousand excuses, rapidly rehearsing explanations for the guards.
She was already preparing to step out and explain herself.
At that moment, rustling sounds came from the tree above.
A wild cat suddenly jumped down from the branches.
A cat?
“So it’s just a stray cat.”
“You scared me for nothing.”
The squad leader let out a sigh of relief.
Ever since the monster invasion, his nerves had been stretched to the limit.
Any tiny sound at night startled him into drawing his sword, terrifying his wife and children countless times already.
However, Philly stared thoughtfully at the cat.
Hm?
Could this intuition have been pointing toward this cat?
She knew the southern region of the Empire bordered beastkin tribes.
Among the beastkin were plenty of adorable catgirls.
Could this cat actually be a beastkin hiding here?
Then wouldn’t it be able to transfo—
Philly became excited for a moment.
But she quickly realized the cat was male.
Her interest instantly evaporated.
And more importantly, the cat possessed absolutely no mana.
There was no way it could be beastkin.
The mana of beastkin was extremely noticeable.
There was no way she wouldn’t sense it.
Ahh~ what a shame~
With a disappointed expression, Philly turned and followed the patrol squad again.
Her intuition had always been accurate.
So why had it failed this time?
After watching Philly and the guards leave, Dolores finally let out a long breath of relief.
That stray cat almost got her killed.
Good thing the cat knew what was good for it and showed itself in time.
Otherwise she definitely would’ve caught it and neutered it on the spot.
Since she had narrowly escaped disaster, she needed to leave quickly.
She really didn’t want to run into any more accidents tonight.
