Chapter 38: Taking drugs!!!

Watching the egg babies quietly and evenly absorb the crystal’s energy, I nodded with satisfaction, stretched, and returned to my potion-making desk to keep working.

The desk was cluttered with over a hundred bottles, each filled with different potions—

I’m too lazy to clean them, so each bottle holds a single ingredient’s solution, minimizing washing. Only blending bottles need swapping and cleaning.

The result? A chaotic mess of bottles. Most alchemists would lose it seeing this, even with labels, but I don’t care.

I know exactly what’s in each bottle and its purpose, so… nothing to fear!

Humming a tune, I got back to potion-making with a cheerful mood.

Some potions were for Gu Xuanyun and other commissions, but others were for myself.

Quick recovery and healing potions? I’d made and stored those long ago, just in case. Now, most of my potions were for physical enhancement.

I’m pressed for time, so I chose the simplest, most direct way to boost my strength.

Potions!!!

Honestly, potions are the optimal choice. After ages of research, using potions to enhance the body is a systematic process.

Mages don’t have time for physical training—they’re buried in arcane studies in their ivory towers. Only combat mages bother training, but even they can’t match dedicated warriors.

Thus, mage alchemy was born—to safely boost mages’ frail bodies without side effects. The only catch? You need time to master the newfound strength.

No big deal. Mages just want enough strength to avoid collapsing after a few steps. On the battlefield, repositioning often is key, so stamina matters.

Sure, this method quickly boosts stamina and muscle, but it’s pricey and mentally draining.

That’s another reason I’m reluctant to leave—I’m too busy and rushed. Even with a thirty-gold-coin monthly income, practically high-class (enough to buy a decent house in the capital in two or three years), it’s barely enough for me!

“…I’m so poor, so poor, so poor…”

I muttered under my breath.

Raising kids and “raising” myself is a steep challenge.

No choice, though. I came with two egg babies. To survive, I have to keep earning—feeding them while making myself stronger.

Otherwise, if danger strikes, I’d be helpless, and that’d be awful.

I have a gut feeling this peaceful life won’t last. Soon… I might face the old “comrades” who betrayed me in my past life, or something even worse.
