Chapter 44: I’ll take care of you!
A Defensive Retort
Su Keke refused to lose face in front of Mi Xue, stammering, “H-He told me everything, but I’m so busy, how can I remember it all? Which thing are you talking about? Tell me.”
Mi Xue, not one for petty jealousy like Su Keke, straightforwardly recounted Lin Lu’s childhood under Zhuang Yan Yue’s obsessive control.
“Though it’s true Junior Lin was a playboy, I don’t think it’s entirely his fault. We should be lenient, give him a chance to change…”
“Hmph, always playing the saint. You sound like a mother spoiling her naughty kid, still defending him after all he’s done…”
Su Keke’s jab only secretly delighted Mi Xue. She said I’m a mother spoiling her child~
A Tense Ride Home
On the drive back, Lin Lu stole glances at Su Keke, who was behind the wheel. Her stunning profile was expressionless, like she was brewing something explosive, making his heart race with dread.
Slap.
She suddenly smacked the steering wheel, and Lin Lu jolted upright, banging his head on the low roof of the sports car.
“Can this guy drive? Who cuts people off like that?”
Lin Lu exhaled, realizing it was just road rage. But his relief was short-lived. A woman with road rage was usually fierce. If they ever married, he’d probably face daily “domestic discipline”…
“Annoying, just like a certain jerk!”
Her veiled jab silenced him.
Dodging the Storm
Back home, Lin Lu grabbed clean clothes and bolted to the bathroom for another shower, hoping to avoid Su Keke’s wrath.
But even after a half-hour shower, she wasn’t asleep. She leaned against the headboard, quietly scrolling her phone, looking breathtakingly gorgeous in her calm state—so captivating he could lose himself staring.
If only she weren’t so fierce…
A Commanding Presence
Suddenly, her eyes flicked up, locking with his. He blurted, “I’ll watch some TV outside. You sleep…”
“No watching. Come here.”
She put her phone down, patted the bed beside her, her tone commanding.
Fine, no escaping fate.
Lin Lu trudged to the bed, sitting on the edge, as far from her as possible.
“Why’re you so far? Come closer!” She glared, dissatisfied.
He reluctantly scooted over until her fragrance enveloped him.
An Unexpected Gift
Su Keke opened the bedside drawer. Lin Lu braced for some “punishment tool” like a feather duster, but she pulled out a pink outfit.
“Here. I got an extra set of pajamas when shopping today. Since you don’t have any, it’s yours.”
A men’s set, but pink—pants and shirt.
Lin Lu was stunned, taking it cautiously. A sweet gesture before a slap?
He glanced at her matching pink nightgown—clearly a couple’s set.
A Flustered Explanation
His stare made her flush. “The clerk insisted on giving it to me. I didn’t want to waste it, so consider yourself lucky…”
“She recognized you?”
Lin Lu meant the clerk knew Su Keke’s celebrity status and her recent assigned partner, hence the couple’s pajamas.
Su Keke nodded quickly. “Yeah, exactly!”
“That’s nice of her, dipping into her own pocket for you…”
Su Keke tossed her hair proudly. “Of course! My charm’s just that strong, unlike a certain someone’s bad rep!”
A Reluctant Change
Lin Lu, ever the straight guy, cringed at the pink pajamas and handed them back. “I’m not wearing this.”
Su Keke bristled. “How dare you reject the clerk’s kindness? Put it on!”
“She doesn’t even know…”
“I know! Change, now!”
She lunged, tugging at his pants. Her soft hands startled him. “I’ll change in the bathroom, okay?”
“Just change here. You’re a guy—what’s there to be shy about?”
A Vulnerable Moment
She yanked off his pants and shirt, leaving him in just boxers, exposed like a lamb awaiting slaughter.
Her gaze dipped for a split second, and her face steamed…
Even through the thin fabric, she sensed the dormant lion that could overwhelm her if awakened.
But her attention shifted, stunned by the purple and blue bruises across his chest, back, and thighs. The bath video’s beauty filter had hidden them.
A Painful Discovery
“You’ve been fighting again? How old are you, still acting this childish?!”
Her voice mixed heartache and anger. She grabbed a bottle of bruise ointment from the drawer, kneeling astride his right leg. Finding it awkward, she sat directly on his thigh. The warmth and firmness through her thin skirt made her ears burn.
She expertly applied ointment to his chest bruises. She’d done this before—he was always getting into schoolyard brawls.
A Defensive Retort
Called childish, Lin Lu countered, “This isn’t like before, fighting to look cool. This pays.”
Her fingers circled his chest, applying the ointment, as she looked at him skeptically.
Flexing his toned arm proudly, he said, “In my old city, there was an underground fight club. Be a human punching bag for ten minutes, earn 50 bucks. If the client’s happy, maybe a tip. I made thousands before uni.”
A Heartfelt Reaction
“Idiot! What’s there to brag about?!”
She raised her hand to smack him but stopped, afraid to hurt his bruises, instead gently tracing them.
Back then, his fights—some with banned weapons—never fazed her. But now, mere punches made her heart ache…
Tears threatened, but she forced them back. Why waste precious tears on this enemy?
A Quick Reassurance
Her reaction startled him. “You know I’m tough. These’ll fade in a month.”
If this city had such a fight club, he’d still be cashing in.
“No more earning money like that! I… I’ll support you!”
