Chapter 44: Weird Campus 13: Floor

Dormitory, Silent and Dark

The faint moonlight spilled through the window, illuminating a bruised and scratched face, streaked with two trails of blood tears.

A strange girl in white sat on the desk by the window, her exposed skin covered in shocking wounds. Her limbs bent at unnatural angles, her gaze vacant, blood seeping from her eyes.

Xu Nian watched her warily, hand quietly on the doorknob.

Click.

The lights snapped on.

The window seat was empty—the girl vanished the moment the lights flared, making Xu Nian question her own eyes.

With the room lit, they could see their surroundings.

Two desks stood side by side by the window, a bunk bed against the left wall with bedding on both bunks, and on the right, two cabinets and a full-length mirror.

“Looks like a two-person dorm,” Shen Musi said.

Xu Nian didn’t care much about the setup, but…

The bunk beds posed a problem. Chained together, sleeping on separate bunks wasn’t feasible.

She’d sworn to keep her distance from Shen Musi…

She glanced at her. Shen Musi smiled back, her eyes questioning if something was wrong.

“I’ll sleep on the floor,” Xu Nian conceded.

“What?!” Shen Musi tried to sway her with a pitiful look. “Deskmate, sleep together~”

“No.”

“It’s too scary here. I’ll be afraid at night…” Shen Musi tugged her sleeve, blinking earnestly.

“Wanna sleep on the floor instead?” Xu Nian raised a brow.

“Fine, I’ll take the floor,” Shen Musi pouted.

Don’t let me sleep with you? Watch me sneak onto the bed later.

They approached the bed, facing the full-length mirror opposite.

“I’ll set up the floor bed!” Shen Musi eagerly took on the task.

Bored, Xu Nian scanned the room, her gaze drawn to the mirror.

It reflected two figures. Behind her, Shen Musi busied herself, the chain swaying with her movements.

Shen Musi was undeniably human—her appearance, warmth, and reflection screamed it.

She wasn’t the Young Lady.

Xu Nian didn’t know why she clung to the hope that Shen Musi was her. Her lashes lowered, hair veiling her eyes, hiding her inner turmoil.

Was she, Xu Nian, really…

A complete player?

She wrestled with the thought, deciding to observe Shen Musi longer.

What if she was pretending?

Her thoughts teetered on the edge of morality—she didn’t want to doubt Shen Musi, nor accept she might be a player.

Irritation stirred.

Beside her, Shen Musi had neatly arranged the bedding on the floor and stood up.

In the mirror, Shen Musi’s tall figure loomed behind her. “What’re you looking at?”

“Nothing. Let’s sleep.”

The lights went out.

No wounded, twisted-limbed girl by the window this time.

Shen Musi, on the floor, said, “Goodnight, deskmate.”

“Goodnight.”

Xu Nian turned, giving her only a back.

Night

“Xu Nian?”

No response, just steady breathing.

A figure slowly rose from the floor, climbing onto the bed.
