Chapter 50: Pupil Technique

In all the days since waking up, I’d never slept so peacefully.

Waking up the next morning, I felt like I was at my peak—

Exactly what I needed.

Carving intricate magical inscriptions on a palm-sized crystal requires intense focus, and my current mental state was perfect for it.

I stretched, feeling much less sore than yesterday—recovered enough to move freely. By tomorrow, I should be ready to train again.

Hopping off the bed, I tested my body, satisfied with its condition, then prepared to head to Golden Skull to buy carving tools and materials.

As usual, I grabbed a big backpack, tucked my egg babies inside, and headed out with them on my back.

On the street, it was noticeably emptier than before.

No surprise—the garrison’s camp was attacked, their armory blown up. I don’t know the casualties, but it was a slap in the face to the officers.

Since yesterday, the city’s been on lockdown. Soldiers patrolled every fifty steps, a stark presence.

But is it effective?

I glanced at the soldiers, thinking to myself.

Most were Bronze-rank, with barely any Silver-rank among them. Thinking they could catch or stop infiltrating other races was naive.

This was all for show—lockdown for appearances’ sake. Whether these soldiers could catch suspects… doubtful.

They seemed useless, not only failing to catch anyone but also hassling residents…

“You there! Stop!”

“…”

A shout from behind made me freeze, my expression turning colorful.

I just thought it, and this happens!?

Sighing helplessly, I turned slightly to look back.

As expected, a squad of soldiers approached, their gazes fixed on me—clearly, I was the one they called out.

“Miss, your name?”

“…Su, Su Mengmeng…”

The lead soldier questioned me, and I blinked, answering honestly.

“Where do you live?”

“Just… the apartment up ahead.”

I pointed toward my place, keeping up an obedient act.

Right after thinking about it, I get stopped. I’m starting to question reality.

“…What’s in the backpack? Open it!”

The soldier’s expression flickered as he eyed my backpack with the egg babies.

My face changed instantly, but I bit my lip and made a quick decision.

“N-Nothing’s in it…”

I put on a frail, pitiful act, speaking softly to the soldiers.

“…Nothing?”

“Nothing… so, can you not check?”

I blinked, looking pathetic.

“…Fine, I understand…”

My weak tone and expression made the wary soldier go dazed, turning away without another glance.

Of course, he wouldn’t just take my word for it—but charm changes things.

Yes—I used my charm ability… or rather, my eye technique.

I’d studied this sudden charm power before and concluded it’s more of a pupil technique.

After experimenting, I found it requires conditions: a soft, cute tone and a genuine sense of pleading. That turns my eyes purple, activating the technique. Other conditions or limits? I’m not sure yet, but my current power can only charm so many.

Still, Bronze-rank warriors have no resistance against it.
