Chapter 54: A word becomes a prophecy
At the base of the building, by the entrance.
Yao Bai never imagined a scene straight out of a TV drama would happen to her.
“Big Brother Security, Rou Ye’s really my sister—let me in!”
“Our CEO Ye is a big shot, making millions a second. How could she have a broke-looking sister like you?”
The security guard’s condescending tone floored Yao Bai.
Broke-looking?
Just because he saw her park a shared e-scooter, she was broke?
Believe it or not, she could whip out a million and scare this snobby guard to death.
Crunch! Crunch!
A twisting, compressing sound came from above the building.
A massive billboard crashed down between them.
Boom!
“Holy crap!”
The high-and-mighty guard spat out profanities in shock.
“What kind of shoddy construction? Two billboards falling?”
“No more letting those lazy workers in—scared me to death. What if it hit me?”
Looking up, a wall collapsed, engulfing the area in front of the building.
Boom!
The guard was instantly crushed into paste, his words eerily prophetic.
Yao Bai, protected by her witch’s self-defense mechanism, transformed into her Pride form just before impact, escaping unharmed.
The entire building began to collapse. Pride shoved aside the wall pinning her and shot into the air.
Rou Ye!
Pride gritted her teeth, heart pounding with anxiety.
Rou Ye worked in this building.
With it collapsing, her fate was unknown!
Pride dove into the crumbling structure, searching for Rou Ye.
At one spot, she sensed a fleeting, familiar magic fluctuation.
Instinctively, she charged toward it, smashing through falling debris like a steel cannonball.
She saw it!
Countless people plummeting inside the building—hitting the ground meant death.
Rou Ye was among them.
Pride didn’t stop to think whose magic she’d sensed, flinging out her flower-thorn whip.
Under her control, the whip had no thorns.
The soft, fragrant whip wrapped around Rou Ye’s waist, pulling her to Pride.
Blood dripped from Rou Ye’s forehead, her eyes closed.
Pride’s heart clenched, rushing out of the collapsing ruins.
She placed a hand under Rou Ye’s nose—still breathing, steady. She’d just fainted from shock.
Lifting Rou Ye’s bangs, Pride saw a scraped patch, the source of the blood.
“Phew~”
Pride exhaled in relief—Rou Ye was okay.
Why had a perfectly fine building collapsed?
Puzzled, Pride looked up.
Buildings were collapsing one after another, the city descending into chaos.
People screamed and ran.
It was a scene Pride had often seen.
In the past, she’d have rushed to save everyone without hesitation, but now she only wanted to stay by Rou Ye’s side.
Saving the day was a job for magical girls.
Pride moved Rou Ye to a safe spot, set up a magic barrier, and left.
As soon as Pride departed, Rou Ye’s eyes snapped open. She hurried to the window.
She could still see Pride’s scarlet streak zipping through the sky.
“Things are getting interesting~ Looks like the culprits are from that Tarot Society the princess has been annoyed with lately~”
Before the collapse, Greed had sensed an unusual magic surge.
A calamity-level magic power—a force magical girls couldn’t ignore.
But to a witch? Not quite enough.
In her Greed form, Rou Ye secretly followed Pride, curious to see how she’d handle this.
Would she intervene?
Or watch quietly as the magical girls dealt with it?
Greed spotted several rainbow streaks in the distance—magical girls had arrived.
“Iris, Pansy, evacuate the crowd first!”
“Got it!” ×2
Venus, wielding her spear, sped toward the culprit behind the collapsing buildings.
A fat man, like a tower of flesh.
Seeing a golden light flying at him, excitement flashed in Lei Li’s eyes.
He stomped, anchoring himself to the ground. Venus’s spear struck his chest dead-on.
The immense force sent Lei Li flying, slicing through the sky, piercing clouds, leaving a massive hole.
Venus, gripping her spear, paused on the rooftop, surprised. This enemy felt… weak.
One hit, and he was gone.
A sharp, indescribable pain hit her chest. Looking down, she was horrified.
A gaping hole had appeared in her chest, blood pouring out.
“Damn… I fell for it.”
Venus gritted her teeth, jamming her spear into the ground to steady herself.
“Hahaha, how’s it feel to be hit by your own full-force attack?”
The man Venus had blasted away descended slowly onto another rooftop, his fleshy face jiggling with his grin.
“Venus!”
“Stay back!”
Venus shouted, stopping Iris and Pansy, who’d finished evacuating and come to help.
“Don’t attack him.”
A fleshy tower of a man with incredible defense, reflecting 100% of attacks back to the attacker.
This wasn’t an ordinary enemy.
He was an Arcana from the Tarot Society’s fourth division, [Page]—the Tower.
Venus’s mood hit rock bottom.
The Tarot Society had 78 members. The top 22, called Arcana, were all calamity-level.
The other 56 were at least ferocious-level—a massively powerful evil organization.
The Flower Shop knew little about the Tarot Society, but the Tower’s intel was within their knowledge.
Venus clutched her chest, using magic to stem the bleeding. She was certain this hulking man was the Tower.
“Retreat. He’s an Arcana from the Tarot Society’s fourth division, [Page]—the Tower.”
“Go tell Little White to call calamity-level magical girls. I’ll hold him off.”
Without hesitation, the two knew a calamity-level foe was far beyond them—staying would make them liabilities.
But Lei Li wasn’t letting them leave easily. This chaos carried risks.
If the Flower Shop’s high-level magical girls targeted him, he’d be in trouble.
Towers rose from the ground, sealing the area tight.
Above, the rising towers formed a no-fly magic zone.
They had no chance to escape and rejoined Venus.
“Venus, what now?”
Iris’s voice trembled. She’d never seen such a scene, intimidated by the dozens of sky-blocking towers.
Each tower was covered in twisted, terrifying human faces!
Pansy was equally lost, clueless on how to break through.
Venus said nothing, just shielded them behind her.
She’d protect them—as their senior, she wouldn’t let them die here!
