Chapter 54: Gu Yunxuan is late
After finishing the crystal, I rested for half a day. The next day, I returned to Golden Skull’s gravity field for training.
Learning from last time and planning to leave Black Obsidian soon, I didn’t push too hard, training lightly and stopping when appropriate.
For the remaining time, I avoided overexerting myself. With the unstable situation, staying in top condition to handle any sudden events was smarter.
Finally, the day to deliver the potion to Gu Xuanyun arrived. I got to Golden Skull early, and the supervisor handed me the pass.
Seeing Golden Skull’s logo, the city guard commander’s signature, and the official seal, I nodded, tucked it away, and waited in the lounge with all my belongings for Gu Xuanyun.
After this delivery, I’m leaving. I told the supervisor as much.
Luckily, they could even arrange a vehicle to get me out!
That’s perfect! It costs extra, but having them handle the hassle is worth it—better than stressing myself out.
Everything felt smooth, so I was in a great mood. Sitting on a high chair, bored, I swung my legs to pass the time, but even after a while, Gu Xuanyun didn’t show.
He was past the agreed time.
“…Weird. He’s never early, but he’s never been late either.”
Puzzled by his absence, I was about to ask what was up after half an hour when the door was finally shoved open.
There stood Gu Xuanyun.
“…Sorry, just got enough money and rushed back. Kept you waiting.”
Looking disheveled but brimming with killing intent, he apologized softly.
“…No worries.”
Seeing he’d clearly just come from a fight, I didn’t want to rile up this killing god and waved it off.
“Here, use the potion. I’m leaving after this.”
“You’re leaving too?”
“Hm?”
I pulled out the potion, waved it at him, and spoke. He looked slightly surprised.
“Black Obsidian’s not safe anymore. I’m heading to an Academy City to live. You too?”
“…No valuable targets left around here, so it’s time for me to move on.”
He paused before answering.
I couldn’t help but twitch my lips.
What a killing god—
But it makes sense. Including this potion, he’s spent at least six hundred gold coins—a fortune, enough to buy a big plot in Black Obsidian. He’s probably killed hundreds, if not a thousand, beasts. That’s a large mercenary group’s income for a month or two. No wonder there’s nothing left to hunt.
With no targets, of course he’s leaving.
“…Phew, alright. Where are you headed? Want me to keep taking your commissions?”
I exhaled, asking.
A twenty-gold-coin commission is rare, and if he keeps hiring me, that’d be ideal.
“…If you’re willing, sure. But the next delivery might be two months out—I need to relocate first. Let’s talk later; use the potion for now.”
He said a bit more, then got to business, starting to remove his shirt. Though I’d seen this twice—third time now—my lips still twitched.
