Chapter 6: Grandfather’s legacy(1).
Stepping outside, I looked around, but there was no one at the back entrance of the ducal estate.
“Well then, shall we head to the capital?”
My errand was at the bank, where I had precious items stored in a safe deposit box.
Upon arriving, a receptionist approached with a warm smile.
“Is there anything I can assist you with?”
“Yes. I’d like to retrieve something from my safe deposit box.”
She nodded once.
“Could you please show me your bank card?”
“Yes.”
I reached into my Magic Bag, pulled out the bank card, and handed it to her.
“I’ll take it from here.”
She accepted the card and, with her other hand, retrieved a small magical device from her breast pocket. She scanned my card with it—a card reader, essentially.
The reader, glowing red, flashed blue.
“As you said, we have a record of your safe deposit box usage. Please, follow me.”
With a polite gesture, she led me deeper into the bank, where rows of personal safe deposit boxes lined the walls.
“According to the records… your box is…”
Pointing at the array of boxes, she searched for mine.
She stopped at one.
“Here it is.”
She unlocked it, turned to me, and gestured toward the box.
“Here you are. Please, go ahead.”
I switched places with her.
Inside were the gold coins I’d saved from the payments for Middle and High Heal Potions, along with a single Elixir, a keepsake from my grandfather. It was the first and last one he made near the end of his life.
I carefully placed it in my Magic Bag.
“That’s everything. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
With that, I left the bank.
The payments for the Middle and High Heal Potions were originally saved to cover Adolf’s reckless spending.
—But now, I’ll use them for my future.
After all, those potions could only be made by me in the ducal workshop.
What’s wrong with using that money for myself?
To think I served faithfully despite such betrayal—I was too naive, too oppressed.
Strangely, my heart, now recalling my past life, felt no guilt.
“Now, what’s next…”
I took out the pendant again.
“It’s time to use this.”
Another heirloom from my grandfather, this pendant held a sky-blue magic stone imbued with teleportation magic. He’d told me it could take me to his hidden retreat in the capital from anywhere. It was, in essence, a magical device.
I reached behind my neck and unclasped the chain.
“…Take me to that hidden retreat…!”
Gripping the magic stone, I focused my will.
An intricate magic circle appeared beneath my feet, glowing brightly. The light enveloped me, and in an instant, I was teleported to a certain place in the capital.
