Chapter 60: Nothing Can Be Changed

The “angels” spread their wings of light and were about to take off, but dozens of crimson beams arrived first and landed accurately on each “angel,” evaporating them into ashes in an instant.
In the blink of an eye, the situation was reversed.
Yin Qingle looked at her raised palm, feeling a little confused, but soon realized that this action was done with Jiang Yuxin’s “help.”
Chen Dongyang was stunned for a moment, then reacted as well.
He glanced at the girl behind him, worried that this kind of thing would cause conflict within the team again.
In response, Jiang Yuxin just gave him a cold look.
“Rather than this, you should worry about that guy in the sky.”
Hearing this, he looked up.
Then Yin Xiran was seen falling weakly from mid-air due to exhaustion.
Seeing this, Chen Dongyang rushed over without hesitation and caught her in his arms before she landed.
The body in his arms was incredibly soft, yet also surprisingly light.
It was obvious that she was using her ability to slow down her fall while falling, otherwise Chen Dongyang would not have been able to catch her so easily.
Yin Xiran’s weight was almost entirely on his arm, so Chen Dongyang could easily feel her body trembling slightly.
Her breaths were rapid and scorching, hitting Chen Dongyang’s neck with a scorching heat.
Sweat soaked her hair, leaving strands clinging to her pale cheeks.
Her eyes, which always shone with shrewdness and confidence, were now closed, and even a few tiny beads of sweat clung to her long lashes.
She exuded a rare sense of vulnerability.
“Hello, classmate Yin Xiran?
Are you okay?”
Chen Dongyang adjusted his posture awkwardly, trying to make her lean more comfortably, his tone full of concern.
Yin Xiran’s eyelashes fluttered a few times, and she slowly opened her eyes.
Her bright eyes lost focus for the first few seconds as she stared blankly at Chen Dongyang’s face, which was so close to her.
Then, her pride and clarity quickly returned.
She struggled almost subconsciously, trying to get out of Chen Dongyang’s arms.
“Let me go.”
Her voice was a little hoarse, but her tone still carried that stubborn toughness.
“Don’t move, you are very weak now.”
Instead of letting go, Chen Dongyang held her more firmly, fearing that she would fall.
“I told you to let go!”
Yin Xiran’s brows knitted tightly together, and a blush of embarrassment appeared on her face.
She tried to push Chen Dongyang’s chest with her hands, but the strength she exerted was no different from a cat’s claw tickling Chen Dongyang at that moment.
At this moment, a burst of hurried footsteps was heard.
Yin Qingle had already hurried over, her face full of worry and heartache.
“Xiran!
How are you?
Are you hurt?”
She grabbed her sister’s hand, looked her up and down, her eyes a little red.
Seeing her sister on the verge of tears, Yin Xiran immediately gave up the idea of struggling.
She sighed helplessly and let Chen Dongyang half-hold her.
“I’m fine, sis.”
Her voice softened.
“It’s just… I overused my brain a little.
I’ll be fine after a rest.”
Jiang Yuxin raised the flashlight to check, but unfortunately Yin Qingle’s ability was too overbearing.
She had deliberately withdrawn her hand in the hope of keeping him alive for further research, but she was unable to do so.
However, although the monster had been eliminated, things were far from over.
She turned and walked towards the three people.
After confirming that Yin Xiran was merely exhausted and not seriously injured, Chen Dongyang carefully helped her to a seat.
Yin Qingle immediately squatted down, took out some water and tissues from her backpack, and carefully wiped the sweat off her sister’s face.
Jiang Yuxin gave Chen Dongyang a look.
After a moment of hesitation, the other party followed her and walked in front of Zhao Haoyu.
The man’s appearance at this moment could only be described as pathetic.
He collapsed to the ground, his entire body shaking violently and uncontrollably.
His cloudy eyes stared intently at the dancing puppet that had fallen to the ground not far away, filled with despair and fear, as if it wasn’t just a puppet, but the pillar of his entire world.
He kept making meaningless roars, and saliva and tears mixed together, leaving two clear traces on his dirty face.
Jiang Yuxin didn’t want to get too close, so she handed the interrogation task over to Chen Dongyang.
When Chen Dongyang saw him like this, the raging rage in his heart somehow subsided, and was replaced by a complex emotion of disgust and pity.
“It’s over, Zhao Haoyu.”
Chen Dongyang’s voice was low and hoarse.
“Your ‘angel’ has been destroyed by us.”
Hearing this, Zhao Haoyu’s body froze.
He turned his head with great difficulty, and his eyes, which had lost all their spirit, stared at Chen Dongyang blankly.
After a few seconds of dead silence, an extremely strange laugh came out intermittently from the depths of his throat.
“Heh… heh… end?”
His laughter grew louder and more frantic, eventually turning into unbridled laughter.
He laughed, choked, and coughed, tears and snot flowing uncontrollably.
He twisted into a ball on the ground, looking crazier and more terrifying than ever before.
“Hahaha… hahahaha… do you think this is the end?
Stupid… you self-righteous fellows are really stupid to the extreme!
Hahahaha!”
He laughed so hard that he could hardly breathe, but he still stared at everyone intently.
In those empty eyes, a very sick light filled with malicious pleasure was rekindled.
“What you destroyed… was nothing more than an immature… a fragile… larva!
A mere shell with nothing but beauty!
The true ‘angel’ had long since… long since…”
His voice suddenly rose and turned into a shrill scream.
“It has long been spread to every corner of this world along with my melody!
Everyone who has heard that melody… every soul with pain and despair hidden in their hearts… they… they are all the perfect breeding grounds for ‘angels’!”
“It’s useless!
Everything is meaningless now!”
Zhao Haoyu propped up his upper body and swept his bloodshot eyes viciously over the faces in front of him that had become stiff with shock, with a twisted pleasure on his face that was almost like successful revenge.
“That song… ‘Angel’s Melody’… has been everywhere for a long time!
It’s on the radio, it’s being played online, it’s being played on loop in shopping malls…
Praise the age of data!
Hahahaha!
You can’t stop it!
Everyone who has heard it has had a seed planted in their bodies!”
“Now, the seeds… sprout!”
He opened his arms as if embracing some great invisible miracle, and a martyr’s enthusiasm appeared on his face.
“Soon… soon you will see!
Tonight, tomorrow morning… one, ten, a hundred, a thousand… those chosen ones will smile and greet death in the sweetest dreams!
And then… and then…”
He opened his mouth, revealing a pale and cruel smile.
“They will ‘hatch’!
Their bodies, soaked in pain and despair, will become new cocoons!
Hatching more ‘angels’!
One after another!
Never ending!”
“You… you can’t change anything!
You can’t win!
Hahahahahaha—”
The crazy laughter echoed for a long time above the silent mountaintop.
