Chapter 63:Searching For The Heart

Shu Yue’s sword light streaked southward, cutting through the clouds like a comet fleeing a collapsing star. The third curse pulsed faintly in her Golden Core, its dark threads weakened but persistent, amplifying her despair. If I vanish, they’ll be free. Her heart lake, once turbulent with guilt, now lay still, a mirror of her resolve to end her role as the “villainess” Luyue. Below, Canglan Sect’s peaks faded, Jinghong Peak a distant memory. She didn’t look back.

At Jinghong Peak, chaos erupted. Lin Xiaoxi clutched the storage ring, its weight crushing her small hands as tears streamed down her face. “Teacher, why?” she sobbed, collapsing in the bookroom. Chu Yi, his Foundation Building aura unsteady, knelt beside her, his voice hoarse. “Master… what have you done?” The ring’s contents—Shu Yue’s entire legacy—confirmed her intent. He sent a transmission talisman to Qing Wan, urgency overriding his usual calm. Master’s gone.

Qing Wan, still gripping the Converging Heart Scabbard, stood frozen on the peak, her Silent Annihilation Sword Intent flickering with panic. Shu Yue’s bow, her silent gift, and that final, desolate look haunted her. She’s running again. Her earlier anger dissolved into dread. She rushed to the bookroom, finding Lin Xiaoxi and Chu Yi. “Where is she?” she demanded, her voice sharp but trembling. Lin Xiaoxi’s sobs answered, and Qing Wan’s heart sank. “We find her. Now.”

Wan Qing, in the guest pavilion, stared at the warm jade pendant and agarwood tablet, her flute still in her hand. Luyue’s leaving? The gifts, heavy with farewell, disrupted her calculations. Her gentle facade cracked, revealing a flicker of genuine concern. She activated a tracking talisman, its qi tracing Shu Yue’s sword light. I won’t let you escape. Liu Qingxu, confined to Yaochi Peak under Yuheng’s orders, sensed the jade slip’s weakening pulse. Luyue’s fleeing the curse. Her scheme faltered, but she whispered to an ally, “Follow her. She’s vulnerable.”

Elder Yuheng, in the sect’s council hall, presented evidence of Liu Qingxu’s forbidden arrays to the Sect Master. “Luyue’s collapse was no accident,” she declared, her counter-talisman glowing. The Sect Master’s gaze hardened. “Find Luyue. Her absence threatens the trials.” Yuheng nodded, dispatching disciples to track Shu Yue’s qi, her own resolve firm. She’s not the villain she thinks.

Shu Yue landed in a desolate valley, far from Canglan’s borders, her sword light fading. The valley’s jagged cliffs and barren winds mirrored her heart. She sat on a stone, Frost Silence across her lap, her white robes stark against the gray. This is where it ends. The third curse stirred, but her mind was clear—too clear. She raised her hand, qi gathering to sever her meridians, a final act to erase her presence.

A sword’s hum broke the silence. Qing Wan descended, her blade drawn, eyes blazing with desperation. “Master, stop!” Lin Xiaoxi followed, her novice qi flaring as she ran to Shu Yue, throwing her arms around her. “Teacher, don’t leave us!” Chu Yi landed beside them, his voice steady but pleading. “Master, you’re our anchor.” Wan Qing arrived last, her flute silent, her gaze unreadable. “Luyue, running solves nothing.”

Shu Yue’s hand froze, her qi dissipating. Qing Wan stepped closer, her voice raw. “You think disappearing fixes us? You’re wrong.” Her eyes, once icy, burned with loyalty. Lin Xiaoxi’s tears soaked Shu Yue’s robes. “We need you, Teacher.” Shu Yue’s heart lake rippled, her resolve cracking. They came for me. The curse pulsed, but their presence dulled its sting.

Yuheng’s voice echoed from above, her counter-talisman blazing. “Luyue, return. The sect needs you, curse or not.” Shu Yue looked at her disciples, then Wan Qing, her voice barely a whisper. “I’ve only hurt you.” Qing Wan shook her head, gripping her arm. “Then stay and make it right.” The valley’s winds stilled, and Shu Yue’s eyes glistened. Not for survival, but for them. The trials awaited, and Jinghong Peak’s unity faced its ultim
