Chapter 67: No more playing
Back home, Lin Xiaoxiao flopped onto the couch, planning to scroll through videos.
Before she could open her phone, his call came through.
For the past two days, Zhou Ting had been bombarding her with calls whenever he had a spare moment, turning her initial annoyance into numbness.
Rolling her eyes, she answered.
“Little one, what’re you up to?” Zhou Ting asked, lounging in his hotel. The project was going smoothly, boosting his mood.
His only regret? Not bringing her along…
Hearing his voice, she replied listlessly, “Nothing. Lying down, answering your call.”
He caught the resentment in her tone but ignored it, continuing, “Had dinner?”
She shook her head, glancing at the time. “I’ll whip up some noodles later. You?”
He shook his head too. “Just got back to the hotel. Haven’t eaten yet.”
She nodded. “Go eat then. Stop chatting with me—what’s there to talk about every day?”
He frowned, mildly annoyed. He’d sacrificed rest time to video call her, and this was her attitude?
His eyes gleamed with mischief. “Since you’re bored with small talk, how about a healthy topic?”
Pouring herself water, she paused, sensing trouble. “What healthy topic?”
His eyes narrowed, and he dropped a bombshell. “What color panties are you wearing today, little one?”
She choked, spraying water and coughing. This was his idea of healthy?
Glaring, she snapped, “Pervert! I’m not telling you…”
Unfazed, he smiled. “How about a bet, little one?”
She blinked, blurting, “What bet?”
She regretted it instantly, knowing he’d say something shameless.
As expected, he glanced at her legs under her dress via the screen, drawling, “Since you won’t show me, I’ll guess the color. If I’m right, you show me…”
Before he finished, she cut him off, face red. “No bet! That’s stupid!”
It was a lose-lose for her—she wasn’t falling for it!
Unhurried, he continued, “Hear me out. If I guess wrong, I’ll bring you a gift when I’m back. How’s that?”
She pouted, unmoved. “Don’t want it! I don’t need gifts.”
A tiny part of her was curious, but not enough to agree to his embarrassing bet.
Seeing she wasn’t biting, he sweetened the deal. “Fine, I’ll bring you a gift either way. But if I guess right, you show me.”
“It’s a win-win for you. What are the odds I guess right? And even if I do, it’s no big deal.”
His logic made sense, and she wavered. He didn’t know what color she was wearing, and if he guessed right, she could just… deny it.
Feeling bold, she said, “Fine, let’s bet. Guess—one chance.”
Unaware of her plan to cheat, he was surprised she agreed but pleased, smiling. “What’s your favorite color?”
She saw through his tactic—trying to fish for clues. “I like white. So?”
In truth, she preferred black and red, and today’s color wasn’t either…
He smiled silently, his gaze lingering on her skirt as if he could see through it, making her clamp her legs shut.
After a pause, he said, “I guess… blue. Am I right?”
Her eyes widened, lips parting. “How…”
She caught herself, feigning innocence. “Y-you’re wrong. It’s not blue.”
He didn’t miss her fleeting guilt and panic, smirking. “Oh? Really wrong? Dishonesty gets punished, you know.”
Her body trembled, avoiding his gaze, doubling down. “W-who’s dishonest? You are wrong!”
He squinted, shrugging. “Alright, prove it. Show me the real answer.”
Her hands instinctively pressed her skirt, panic rising.
Then it hit her—whether he guessed right or wrong, she’d have to show him to “prove” it?
Outraged, she pouted. “Unfair! Proving you’re wrong is the same as you being right! I’m the one losing…”
“I’m done. Go eat!” She thought that would end it.
But would Zhou Ting let it go? No meat, and now no peek?
He spoke righteously. “You agreed to the bet, didn’t you? Proving it doesn’t mean showing everything—just a glimpse.”
“Unless… I did guess right, and you’re backing out?”
She hadn’t expected him to be so persistent, leaving her speechless.
But she was set on dodging this. Gritting her teeth, she admitted, “Fine, you’re right. But I’m not showing you. So what, huh?”
To seem defiant, her delicate face took on a taunting expression.
