Chapter 8: Going Out.

The next day, White Night period, exactly ten o’clock in the morning.

Taking advantage of the moment while hot porridge was simmering in the kitchen, White Sugar returned to the front of the grocery store, removed the door bolt, and pulled open the shop door. This officially marked the start of business hours.

Three hours of White Night plus three hours of Long Night—this was the grocery store’s regular operating time. The remaining hours could be considered relatively free.

“Mmm~ Haa~~”

There were no annoying ghouls outside, and she couldn’t smell the rotting flesh scent on their bodies. Even the air felt exceptionally fresh.

She changed out of yesterday’s dirty clothes. Today, White Sugar wore a medieval-style outfit: a fine checkered khaki overcoat that extended down to her knees, paired with a white tight-fitting thin shirt underneath that wrapped around her body, accentuating the perfect figure unique to a teenage girl.

Below that, a latte-colored pleated skirt barely covered half her thighs, further highlighting her fair, smooth, long and shapely legs that were both slender and pleasantly plump—neither bloated nor overly thin.

If this near-perfect appearance were on the Earth where White Sugar used to live, it would absolutely crush all beauty influencers.

Her natural pure aura, combined with rare heterochromia, made her the top of the top school beauties.

She could slay both boys and girls!

Unfortunately, this was the hell world. The anomalies wouldn’t care how pretty White Sugar looked. They only wanted to eat her—in the literal sense.

Standing at the doorway, White Sugar gazed toward the distant sky.

This world had no sun. Although the so-called White Night was not as pitch-black as Long Night and did not hinder normal activity, the sky remained gloomy and oppressive, making one feel stifled.

Still, she had more or less gotten used to all of this.

“At least it’s another brand new day, right?”

White Sugar nodded to herself in affirmation. In this constructed world full of danger that could drive people mad at any moment, maintaining a good mentality was very important.

Just as the girl was staring outside in a slight daze, a sound suddenly came from behind her.

“Teacher, you’re awake!”

“Mm.”

Claire nodded indifferently. She was still wearing the same black-and-white European medieval-style lolita long dress as yesterday, her waist-length smooth gray hair casually scattered.

If she were going out, White Sugar guessed Teacher would probably wear a tall, pointed wide-brimmed hat.

“How was your rest last night?” The witch lady looked at White Sugar, her gaze carrying a probing meaning.

White Sugar froze for a moment. For a second, she even thought she was hearing things.

If it had been the previous night demon teacher, he would never have asked her something that sounded like concern. He would only urge her to finish her work quickly.

He would also contradictorily hope for White Sugar to make mistakes, using them as an excuse to eat her.

In the diary, the right eye that White Sugar had lost as punishment for accidentally breaking a porcelain bowl had not been wasted at all—it had gone straight into the night demon teacher’s stomach.

And now, her new witch teacher was showing concern?

White Sugar herself didn’t believe such a possibility—especially after the Thousand-Handed Demon who had shown clear malice toward her last night was allowed to leave freely.

“Mm, thank you for your concern, Teacher. Your student rested very well last night.”

White Sugar smiled sweetly. No matter what, she still had to maintain perfect appearances.

“That’s good.”

Claire seemed thoughtful. Judging from White Sugar’s energetic appearance, last night’s ‘relaxation’ seemed to have worked quite well.

“Is breakfast ready?” Claire changed the subject and asked.

“It’s almost done. I’ll go serve it right away.”

White Sugar walked toward the kitchen, feeling grateful that at the very least, the new teacher’s taste was much closer to human standards than the previous night demon teacher.

She could finally eat somewhat normal food.

……

The short breakfast time passed quickly. During the entire morning when there were no customers in the grocery store, not only was the store manager Claire very idle—lounging on a recliner with her large round hat covering her face for a nap—but White Sugar also had nothing much to do.

The girl sprawled bored on the counter, playing with two bottled potions in her hands. One contained deep blue liquid, the other bright red.

They looked exactly like the classic ‘blue potions’ and ‘health potions’ from Earth games.

These were the new items added to the grocery store today.

Concentrating her mind, under the gaze of her right eye’s Eye of Breaking Delusion, the item information slowly emerged.

【Item Name: Mysterious Witch’s Handmade Potion (Blue/Red)】
【Item Effect: After consumption, temporarily and significantly increases mental strength, clears the mind, removes minor negative states, and then recovers a small amount of mana (health) every 5 seconds, lasting five minutes.】
【Item Evaluation: A magic potion casually made by a certain mysterious witch. From a potionology perspective, the purity of the liquid is a rare treasure.】

Although these were just casually made by her teacher with no intention of mass production or profit,

They were indeed on a completely different level from the other goods on the shelves.

Judging from the Eye of Breaking Delusion’s description, carrying these two potions with her might save her life at a critical moment in the future!

Well, to be honest, White Sugar was a little envious…

The girl touched her pocket with her small hand. There were still some Ghost Coins from task rewards inside.

“Teacher~”

“Speak.”

“Can I use Ghost Coins to buy these two bottles of potions you made, Teacher?” White Sugar gathered her courage and asked.

Although they had not known each other for long and the other party was far stronger, the new witch teacher gave White Sugar the feeling that she was somewhat friendlier than the previous night demon teacher.

If the previous night demon teacher’s alignment was [Chaotic Evil], then the witch teacher’s alignment was probably [Lawful Neutral].

Whether she was good or evil couldn’t be determined, but she had her own set of principles and strictly abided by them.

After waiting for a while, Teacher’s reply came slowly. Her tone sounded emotionless, as if she didn’t particularly care.

“Whatever you want.”

“Thank you, Teacher!”

White Sugar first took out all the Ghost Coins from her pocket and deposited them into the counter drawer, then carefully slipped the two potions into her pocket.

Her hope of survival had increased by another notch!

Time passed in idleness. She glanced at the old wall clock.

12:35.

Seeing that the grocery store’s White Night business hours were about to end, Claire, who had been napping on the recliner, finally spoke.

She assigned White Sugar today’s White Night task.

“White Sugar, there is a letter today that needs to be delivered to the owner of the Goat Tavern at Undead Street No. 17. Go deliver it later. Remember to return before Long Night.”

“The letter is on the counter to your left. Make sure to have the recipient sign for it personally.”

【Your teacher ‘Witch’ has issued you the task ‘Deliver the Letter’.】
【Task Requirement: Deliver the ‘Letter’ to the designated person ‘Wine Barrel Butcher’ within the specified time and survive.】
【Task Completion Reward: Experience +250, Ghost Coins ×250, Recognition from your teacher the Witch ‘Claire Charlotte’.】

Staring at the task information slowly appearing in her right eye’s vision, White Sugar’s breathing hitched.

It had finally come—her first time going outside!
