Chapter 45: Who’s on Top?
“Lin Xue-jie, I’m heading out. Thanks for lunch, but I’ve got plans, so I’ll skip shopping.”
At nearly 1 p.m., under blazing sunlight, Su Qi declined Lin Xue’s invitation to shop after their meal at Noel Restaurant. Carrying the bento he’d made, he boarded bus 21 toward Mo Yu’s house.
Watching him leave, Lin Xue, parasol in hand, licked her red lips. No dating experience, but more time together can’t hurt. Little junior, you can’t escape me.
Meanwhile, in a pristine, faintly fragrant room, a graceful woman in a formal nun outfit wielded a glowing cross, pouting with a sweet, sulky tone. “Ugh, little Mo Yu, abandoning me for your friend? So heartless. Is this what they call ‘bros before hoes’?”
If anyone saw this, they’d be stunned. This was Ye Fu Fu, the S-rank Braves team’s aloof healer nun, now relaxed and flirtatious. Her soft, boneless frame lounged on the sofa, the nun attire lending a seductive charm that could spark forbidden urges.
But Mo Yu, lying across her plush lap, wasn’t swayed, only anxious. “Fu Fu-jie, stop healing and go! If A-Qi sees you, it’ll be hard to explain.”
Today, Mo Yu wore a long-sleeved brown loungewear set. As Ye Fu Fu’s healing light shimmered, her fair skin glowed faintly, reflecting recovery. Ignoring Mo Yu’s plea, Ye Fu Fu teased, “Ara, little Mo Yu, you haven’t told your childhood friend you’re a magical girl? If I were him, I’d be mad you hid it but thrilled to know. What boy doesn’t love a magical girl?”
Tapping Mo Yu’s bound tablet, she felt its softness and continued, “It’s like a novel where a girl wants a simple life but marries a disguised billionaire. She might be upset briefly but mostly delighted. You’re plenty charming—don’t feel inferior to me. With the current crisis, don’t leave regrets.”
Mo Yu blushed at the first part but fell silent at the last. Her thoughts drifted to the Braves’ Fourth Plane expedition two days ago. The Ruins grew riskier with each plane. Recent Guild data showed powerful Third Plane beasts migrating to the Fourth, some escaping injured from the connecting passage. Fearing a beast tide, the Braves investigated.
The mission was eerily smooth, like a cultivation novel’s treasure hunt. Beasts, ignoring rivalries, peacefully headed toward a towering peak. The Braves followed stealthily until a dragon, mountain-like with steel wings, charged—not at them, but at their leader. Protecting him, they faced its fiery breath, barely holding up. The leader was swatted into a mountain, shattering three peaks, now comatose. Only the dragon’s distraction by other beasts allowed their retreat.
Recalling the dragon’s might, Mo Yu’s heart raced. Ye Fu Fu’s words stirred her. Should I tell Su Qi I’m a magical girl? If he rejects the female me, we might not even stay friends. But if a dragon attacks Lin City like eight years ago, and I miss my chance…
As she wavered, Ye Fu Fu’s cross dimmed. Adjusting her nun skirt, she said, “Little Mo Yu, your healing’s done except for the ankle. Rest today—no intense moves. I’ll leave you to your childhood friend date and check on the leader.”
Teasing Mo Yu’s flushed face, she found her innocence amusing. This magical girl’s so pure, unlike anime ones. If a beast with odd tastes snagged her, it’d be… interesting. Pinching Mo Yu’s cheek, she slipped into her knee-high nun boots and opened the door.
She froze. A figure stood outside, hand raised to knock—a boy? Similar height to Mo Yu, with soft black hair, delicate features, porcelain skin, and a faint fragrance. Is this Mo Yu’s childhood friend? Softer and fairer than her, almost frail. Another cross-dressing master? Their romance would be… intriguing. Who’d be on top?
The thought sparked a thrill in Ye Fu Fu.
