Chapter 11: The Magic Uncle Was Arrested.
As everyone knows, transforming into a magical girl requires a medium.
And that medium is the transformation gem.
Under normal circumstances, a magical girl’s transformation gem is extremely durable. It is almost impossible to destroy with human-world methods, let alone shatter it into a bag of fragments.
Yet Alice was unlucky. Her transformation gem had completely shattered, and the fragments were stored in a bag, sitting inside the iron box in the wardrobe of her rented apartment.
Normally, once the transformation gem shattered, Magical Girl Alice would cease to exist, leaving only the original body, Xia Hui.
But the result was the opposite. After the gem broke, Xia Hui disappeared, and only Magical Girl Alice remained.
Back to the present moment. When her sister asked about her original form, Alice felt a little strained. Explaining it would be troublesome and require making up quite a few lies.
“There is no need for my original form to appear. It would only cause trouble for you.” Alice answered coldly, her face showing no emotional change.
“Cause trouble for me? Could it be that Senior’s original form is some big shot in Weaving Sunny City!” Xia Xiaocheng’s eyes immediately filled with admiration, sparkling with little stars.
“It’s not as exaggerated as you imagine. I have money but no power.”
Alice thought of her own social media account.
The big blogger with two million followers, Magic Uncle from Another World, and Xia Hui himself — all of them were her.
But how could she let her sister know about any of this! Not even a little!
She swore to keep the information tightly sealed. Her triple identity must never be discovered by her sister.
“Money but no power, money but no power… Ah! Could it be that Senior Alice is… a rich young lady!!”
Xia Xiaocheng slapped her thigh. Her brain once again launched into wild imagination, linking the bossy CEO novels she secretly read to reality.
A fallen magical girl heiress with emotional wounds meeting an ordinary office worker brother, a domineering rich young lady falling in love with me, and all sorts of messy connections were forcibly applied to Alice and Xia Hui.
Noticing the dramatic expression on her sister’s face, Alice felt a headache coming on. She covered her forehead and let out a soft sigh.
“Sigh. Can you stop imagining such ridiculous things? Your brother and I simply know each other. There is only a small personal favor between us.”
“Senior Alice! You don’t need to say anything! I understand! I—totally get it!!”
Xia Xiaocheng spoke with full conviction, raising her head and puffing out her chest. She seemed to have confirmed something but refused to say it out loud.
Fine, fine. Let her misunderstand. Anyway, Xia Hui won’t be able to appear for a while. Once the shady merchant Feibisi delivers the new mask, I’ll explain everything myself.
Alice gave up. She gave up trying to convince Xia Xiaocheng.
“Senior Alice, then where do you plan to… stay tonight?”
Xia Xiaocheng grew even more interested, looking at Alice with full anticipation.
“I will stay here and keep watch for you until the filth from the disaster beasts on your body is completely purified.”
Alice’s blue eyes were indifferent as she responded to Xia Xiaocheng’s expectant gaze.
“Great! Welcome, Senior Alice, to the Xia family! Join the group, join the group!”
Xia Xiaocheng held out her phone horizontally, revealing a QR code for a green chat app group, holding it right in front of Alice.
You little rascal! Asking the senior who just saved you to join the family group on the very first day? You really think your brother is dating, don’t you? Already scouting for a sister-in-law!
Alice’s face stiffened for a moment, but she quickly adjusted.
“No need. I didn’t bring my phone.”
“Then Senior, give me your phone number. I’ll add you as a friend. We can chat often in the future. Whenever I don’t understand something about being a magical girl, I can ask you!”
Xia Xiaocheng’s logic was clear and her motive obvious, leaving Alice momentarily at a loss for how to answer.
The phone was right in her pocket, but could she take it out? That was Xia Hui’s phone! Her sister would definitely recognize it.
“Xia Xiaocheng, don’t you think it’s time for you to rest?” Alice crossed her arms, her tone turning strict and firm as she forcefully changed the subject, leaving no room for refusal.
“Uh! Sorry, sorry! Senior must be annoyed by all my questions. I didn’t mind my boundaries. Xia Xiaocheng knows she was wrong.” After being scolded, Xia Xiaocheng’s lively energy instantly vanished. She even looked a little scared of Alice.
Dealing with a little sister really was difficult. Being too harsh didn’t work, and spoiling her too much didn’t work either.
Alice rubbed her forehead, her tone returning to calm.
“I’m not angry with you, Xia Xiaocheng. It’s just that you should understand people need to have a sense of boundaries.”
“Mm… I understand, Senior. I’ll go to sleep now.”
Xia Xiaocheng stood up and walked toward her room. Her lonely back was stretched long by the moonlight.
“Sigh.”
Alice let out a silent sigh and closed her eyes, sinking into thought.
If the mask spell hadn’t broken, she could have come home to accompany her tonight. She hoped Feibisi would finish the new mask soon.
Tap tap tap.
Footsteps came back from the room. Alice opened her eyes and saw Xia Xiaocheng holding two pillows, with two thin blankets draped over her arms. She asked softly.
“Um… Senior Alice, do you need a blanket and pillow?”
“Thank you.”
Alice nodded. Xia Xiaocheng immediately walked over, but instead of just putting down the blanket and pillow, she curled up on the sofa herself.
“Hm?”
Alice was confused. What was her sister trying to do?
“Senior, I want to tell you something. Actually, I always have my brother turn off the light for me when I sleep. Once I fall asleep, I’m really scared of the dark when sleeping alone.”
Xia Xiaocheng looked up, her big, watery eyes looking even more convincing than if she were acting.
Alice knew this. When her sister was little, she really did often help turn off the light. But after she started working, she came home later and later. By the time she got back, Xia Xiaocheng was usually already asleep — sometimes on the sofa, sometimes curled up under a blanket, and she had even caught a cold because of it.
After all, she was her sister, and Alice wasn’t completely heartless. She nodded.
“Alright. I’ll wait until you fall asleep before turning off the light. Consider it payment for temporarily staying at your house.”
“Thank you, Senior! It’s really great having you here!”
Xia Xiaocheng could now sleep with peace of mind. There was someone beside her — a reliable senior who had saved her from danger.
Although Senior Alice could be a bit fierce sometimes, she was mostly quite gentle. She must be the cool-on-the-outside but warm-on-the-inside type of tsundere. She definitely had to keep her here! And thoroughly investigate her real relationship with her brother!
That way, maybe… maybe she would have a sister-in-law to call soon.
With this wish in mind, Xia Xiaocheng gradually fell asleep. She had a good dream tonight.
……
At midnight, Alice was still sitting on the sofa. She opened her eyes as a faint blue glow slowly radiated from her. The color seemed even richer than before.
Magical girls did not need sleep. Moreover, having lost the mask spell, Alice didn’t even need to pretend. Simply closing her eyes to rest was the best recovery.
Buzz buzz.
The phone in her pocket vibrated. Alice glanced at her sleeping sister to confirm she was asleep, then took out the phone to check the messages.
The private messages for the account “Magic Uncle from Another World” had piled up. Many people were asking why Xia Hui had suddenly gone offline and ditched the stream.
Alice could only post a new update from the phone to give a suitable excuse.
Soon, a new post appeared on the “Magic Uncle from Another World” account.
【Kids, I crashed. Got arrested by a magical girl.】
Before long, the comment section was filled with uniform 【???】.
“See? The heat is here.”
Alice smiled faintly. Although she couldn’t do a live stream, she could still post videos. She had plenty of saved drafts.
