Chapter 8: Take Flight!
“Is this just a very ordinary tool?”
Alice’s tone was full of surprise.
“This thing is installed everywhere. You’ll see when we go out later.”
Tang Yingjie shrugged.
When electric lights were first invented they might have been rare, but what era was this? They were everywhere now. You could buy one on Taobao for four yuan.
“Are there even more powerful things in your world?”
Seeing Tang Yingjie’s casual attitude toward the electric lamp, Alice believed that this item really wasn’t anything precious in this world.
But if something used merely for lighting could so skillfully utilize lightning elements, then what about the more valuable items in this world?
“Things more powerful than this?”
Tang Yingjie didn’t know how to answer for a moment.
“What aspect are you asking about?”
“Are there many different aspects?”
Alice looked shocked.
“Of course. If you’re talking about lighting, this is just a very ordinary fixed light. Its power is only about ten or twenty watts? Really strong lights have hundreds or even thousands of watts. They can easily illuminate an entire sports field. If you gather a bunch of them into a light array, you can turn the imperial capital square into daylight even at night.”
“Wow… you can actually do that?”
Alice imagined the scene.
Turning the entire imperial capital square into daylight was indeed impressive, but it didn’t seem that outrageous?
It was just for lighting after all.
Just as Alice thought this was merely an ordinary civilian magic tool, Tang Yingjie continued.
“Yeah, and if you increase the power further it can even be upgraded into a weapon, turning directly into a large laser cannon. Though I’ve never seen how powerful the big ones are, I have seen smaller ones. From dozens of meters away, they can cut through a tree trunk as thick as my thigh in just a few seconds. It looked pretty fierce.”
Tang Yingjie chatted with Alice while walking up the stairs.
He even used his hand to gesture the thickness of his thigh because he wasn’t satisfied with just words.
Fortunately he had only crossed over for three years, so his memories of his own world were still very clear.
“It can cut a thigh-thick tree trunk in just a few seconds? And this also uses light?”
“Yes, lasers.”
Tang Yingjie nodded, then suddenly froze.
While talking, he finally realized a very serious problem.
The language of the other world was not the same as Chinese! Because he was used to chatting with the Saintess, he had subconsciously spoken in the other world’s language. Only when he had to use Chinese for words that didn’t exist did he notice something was wrong.
“Laser?”
Alice made a strange syllable.
“Mm, just think of it as light magic.”
“Turning electric magic power into light magic? Impressive.”
Alice nodded.
Inside her heart, she had already begun calculating the conversion formula.
Tang Yingjie had no idea that the Saintess had started pondering new energy magic.
He now had a very tricky problem to face.
“Did you receive any divine protection or skills when you crossed into this world?”
“Divine protection? Isn’t that something only you Heroes have? I don’t have it.”
Alice sensed inside her body and gave a firm negative answer.
“Oh… that’s bad. How long would it take you to learn a new language?”
Alice looked up at Tang Yingjie walking on the stairs and blinked.
“Very fast, as long as you teach me.”
Tang Yingjie turned his head to look at Alice’s side profile illuminated by the dim light below.
Facing her flawless face and confident smile, his heart couldn’t help but beat heavily twice.
“Good, that solves a big problem…”
He quickly turned his head back and continued walking toward the rooftop with his head down.
Before long, the two of them reached the rooftop.
Tang Yingjie checked his phone. It was 4:10 AM.
The perfect time when night owls had already gone to sleep and early risers had not yet woken up.
The entire campus was very quiet. Only a few scattered lights were on in the surrounding dorm buildings. The street lamps on the campus roads in the distance were still brightly lit.
Alice stood on the rooftop, breathing in the fresh outside air and looking around at the campus environment.
When she saw the glowing lamp posts lining both sides of the roads and a brightly lit street with huge buildings in the distance, she finally fully understood why Tang Yingjie said electric lights were installed everywhere.
They really were installed everywhere…
“So bright.”
Alice sighed.
But there was no surprise in her tone.
Tang Yingjie knew that although Alice came from another world, she was not some country girl entering the city.
Their whole team had once been invited by Alice to visit the Magic Temple.
That place was practically the never-sleeping city of the other world.
All kinds of glowing items filled the entire city. From day to night, that city had never gone dark.
“No wonder you weren’t surprised at all when we visited the Magic Temple back then.”
“Of course.”
Tang Yingjie puffed out his chest proudly.
“This is still just an ordinary third or fourth-tier city. Next time if there’s a chance, I’ll take you to a first-tier city and Chongqing to see what real sci-fi world lighting looks like. We call that cyber style.”
Alice smiled.
“Alright, I’ll wait for you to take me. It’s a promise.”
Looking at her smile, Tang Yingjie felt a little embarrassed. He rubbed his hair and looked away.
Did the Saintess from before smile this much?
He didn’t really have any impression.
“Alright, so how do we leave now? Jump down from here?”
Alice leaned over the rooftop railing and looked down. At nearly forty meters high, using levitation magic to carry Tang Yingjie down together wouldn’t be difficult for her.
“Yes, we’ll go down from here. It’s safer since there are no cameras on this side.”
He nodded. Then, just as Alice took out her magic wand, he grabbed her hand.
“What are you doing?”
“What are you doing with your wand?”
Both of them asked at the same time.
“My wandless casting isn’t strong enough yet to carry two people while flying down.”
Alice answered Tang Yingjie’s question first. Then her blue eyes stared into his black pupils, as if saying: your turn to explain.
“No need to waste magic power. Didn’t you say there’s no magic in this world? Save it. This height is nothing to me.”
After speaking, Tang Yingjie walked in front of Alice and squatted down.
“?”
“What are you waiting for? Get on.”
“Ah, oh…”
Alice’s little face reddened. She put away her magic wand and carefully leaned onto Tang Yingjie’s broad and solid back.
Feeling the soft, delicate body pressing against his back.
Tang Yingjie took a deep breath.
His nose was filled with the unique floral fragrance of the girl.
“Ready? Go!”
