Chapter 17: One Hundred Dusks.

“Good morning, students. I am your basic magic theory teacher for this semester, and also the invigilator for this entrance adaptive assessment exam.”
The old priest’s gaze, hidden behind his glasses, swept across the students. “No need to be nervous. It’s just a small test. This is also the teacher’s first time invigilating.”

It felt like the old priest was even more nervous than this group of students.

“Eh, where’s my magic tool? Oh, here it is…”
The old priest smiled apologetically as he took out a black robe and put it on.

“Next, you may release magic toward me. This magic tool can defend against mid-rank magic and below for a short time. The classroom’s furnishings also have protective blessings. Everyone, don’t worry about causing any accidents. You can go all out.”

“Please come up one by one, starting from the first student on this side…”
The old priest looked toward the Second Prince sitting in the first row.

But his words halted.

Because in the two rows behind, he saw an all-too-familiar person.

He didn’t say anything more at that moment. After a brief pause, he continued, “Please have this student start, then proceed one after another. Remember to show the teacher your armband as proof of identity, otherwise the teacher won’t know who is who.”

Finally, he added with an apologetic smile, “Please bear with me. This is also my first time being a theory teacher. Although I don’t have much confidence in teaching, I am quite confident in my knowledge of magic theory.”

CocoLiss observed that the students below had varied expressions.

Some of them clearly looked dissatisfied with this seemingly unreliable teacher.

That made sense. The students who could squeeze into this academy were all outstanding talents. What they wanted was naturally the highest level of education and growth. Having such an unreliable teacher would definitely not satisfy them.

However, no one spoke up directly. They were probably waiting to see the teacher’s actual ability first.

The Second Prince in the first row naturally walked up with his head held high and chest out. He straightened his appearance slightly, then showed his armband to the old priest. “I am the Second Prince. I hope you remember this prince well. Please take the upcoming attack seriously. If you can’t withstand it, this prince will also doubt your professional level.”

He was attacking the teacher’s teaching qualifications.

“The teacher understands.”
The old priest actually began to take it seriously.

Then, with a confident smile, the Second Prince’s hands glowed with golden light, forming a crossbow bolt made of flames that shot toward the old priest.

The flame-filled arrow was unstoppable. Its tip fiercely pierced into the old priest’s body, which was wearing the black magic tool robe.

CocoLiss’s eyelid twitched from below.

No way, this guy was going all out on an entrance assessment exam?

Jiahao was Jiahao. As long as it was a chance to show off, he had no sense of restraint.

Although this old priest had tricked her onto the church’s pirate ship, he was still the guy who had given her a job and a meal after she came to this other world.

She was already preparing to go up and save the old priest if anything went wrong.

How would she save him? She didn’t know.

So for now she was just observing from below. After all, she still found it hard to believe that the old priest who had risen from a remote border town to become a teacher at Freud Academy could be blown up by a single flame arrow from a student.

Sure enough, the moment that flame arrow touched the old priest’s black magic tool robe, it turned into specks of starlight.

In the end, it became an evaluation: “Mm, excellent. It’s just that the precision of magic power control is not yet very good, but it is already rare among peers.”

“Hmph.”
The arrogant Second Prince curled his lips, unable to suppress his pleased smile as he returned to his seat.

Wow, Jiahao actually managed to show off successfully.

“This is also something everyone should learn. At times like this, you must not hold back when releasing magic toward the teacher. Otherwise, the teacher cannot give a suitable evaluation. Treat the teacher as an enemy on the battlefield. When facing abyssal kin, do you also plan to show them mercy?”

As soon as these words were spoken, CocoLiss keenly sensed the change in the classroom atmosphere.

It seemed that everyone’s faces now carried a faint trace of anger.

She somewhat understood why Bishop Zain had said she gathered these absolutely loyal young geniuses of the empire to nurture.

It turned out they all had grudges against the Abyss.

Bishop Zain was very particular when selecting students. Her remote border town had barely seen any abyssal kin, yet she had managed to gather so many people from all over who held grudges against them.

“Alright, next.”

“Teacher, I don’t know any magic yet.”

“It’s fine. You can learn quickly later.”
The old priest had a kindly face as he recorded with a floating quill pen. “Fail.”

Someone seemed to be wailing, but CocoLiss pretended not to hear.

Because the next one was Noile.

The little girl hopped onto the platform, then struck a rather serious battle pose.

“Teacher, I’m ready. Are you ready?”

The old priest nodded slightly.

Then CocoLiss saw the girl exhale a puff of white breath and shoot out continuous ice spikes.

Until white mist filled the entire platform.

“Good. Lacks offensiveness. The total magic power is insufficient, resulting in low-quality ice spikes, but the attack is dense.”

The fox-eared girl’s face visibly collapsed. Perhaps because the Second Prince in the first row was still wearing a scornful smile.

She returned to her seat dejectedly, like a wolf with its tail tucked between its legs.

“CocoLiss dear, it’s all up to you now…”
She looked at CocoLiss with pitiful, expectant eyes.

So why were these two suddenly competing with each other for no reason again?

The next one up was CocoLiss. She slightly lifted the sides of her long skirt and quickly stepped onto the platform.

For safety reasons, she still didn’t plan to transform the halo above her head into a staff, lest it raise suspicion.

After all, the old priest was just standing there letting her attack. She didn’t need the fast-casting advantage.

“Father, you said you were promoted to the royal capital. I didn’t expect such a big promotion, becoming a teacher at the academy.”

“Little Liss, I also didn’t expect you could come here. It seems I didn’t notice your magic talent back then.”

“Father, it seems you simply threw me a church and ran off. Even the existence of magic was only told to me by Aunt Susan next door.”

“Alright, no need to say more.”
Whether it was because she had hit a sore spot or because the students below were watching and they couldn’t chat privately for too long, he continued, “Go all out.”

“You said it yourself, okay?”

CocoLiss, who had originally planned to hold back a little, suddenly didn’t feel like restraining herself anymore.

After all, her seven-ring talent and her unclear relationship with Lord Hero would draw attention no matter where she went.

She might as well…

She raised her hand.

She might as well let loose once in a while. Always being cautious and timid in this other world wasn’t right either.

“[Weakening] [Corruption] [Swamp] [Weakness] [Mental Erosion]…”

No, these only applied negative statuses. She still didn’t have any magic that could cause actual damage.

Magic that could cause actual damage…

What came to mind was that night when Bishop Zain had rained down holy spears like golden light toward the abyssal kin.

CocoLiss naturally couldn’t do anything that exaggerated.

But a somewhat less condensed golden-yellow holy spear still appeared in mid-air and then shot violently toward the old priest.

The golden-yellow holy spear stabbed into the ground not far away and finally slowly dissipated into light particles.

What it left behind was a thin line of blood on the old priest’s cheek.

“You little rascal… Full marks.”
