Chapter 4: The New Girl and Old Xu’s Classroom

Passing by the basketball court, Gao Ye suddenly said,

“Luo Su, if I slam-dunked the hoop to pieces right now, wouldn’t I become a legend at school?”

“…”

Luo Su glanced at Gao Ye’s arms. The muscles weren’t bad, but shattering a basketball hoop? Felt like a stretch. “Why don’t you try shot put instead?”

“Heh.”

Gao Ye scoffed. He wanted to show off, not look like an idiot.

“It’s the same thing.” Luo Su kept egging him on.

“No way I’m buying that.” Gao Ye looked up at the sky, then added, “How about you give it a shot, Luo Su?”

“…” Luo Su shut up.

Entering the classroom, Gao Ye jumped in fright, immediately darting back out, startling Luo Su at the door. “What’s wrong?”

“Old Xu! Old Xu’s in there!”

Gao Ye clutched his chest, shaking Luo Su lightly and whispering, “Quick, quick, let me borrow your homework. That jerk lied to me…”

Said it was the last period!

“…”

Luo Su pursed her lips, tossing her backpack at Gao Ye and pointing to the bathroom at the corridor’s corner. “Go on~”

“Got it!” Gao Ye grabbed the bag and bolted.

“…”

Luo Su took a deep breath before stepping into the classroom. She wasn’t late, but having the homeroom teacher there always made her feel inexplicably guilty.

Old Xu, real name Xu Zhiyuan, taught for over a decade.

In his prime, always leading by example, he was Class 5’s homeroom teacher and Chinese teacher, also overseeing math, physics, chemistry, biology, geography… there wasn’t anything he didn’t manage.

“Good morning, teacher…”

Luo Su said weakly.

Seeing Old Xu nod, Luo Su hurried to the far-left seat by the window, second from the back—rumored to be the homeland of kings.

But,

The prime age to save the world and become a king was sixteen. Luo Su… was a few months away from turning seventeen.

“Phew… If I’d known about that shooting star…”

“I’d have wished to be a savior.” Luo Su slumped on her desk, not forgetting to prop open a book beside her, muttering dejectedly, “I wanna save the world… not rot and stink here.”

Still, not making a wish,

Even as a normal person… was better than being a succubus, right?

Luo Su pouted, helplessly tugging at the little tail on her wrist, her body giving a slight shiver. No way around it—it was too sensitive and too noticeable.

Her face flushed slightly, and she instinctively pulled her sleeve down. She had no idea how she’d handle summer. She couldn’t exactly say she was in love, right?

If Old Xu saw that, she’d be done for.

“Everyone, hold on a second.”

Old Xu finally spoke, and the already quiet classroom grew even quieter. “Today, we have a new student in our class. Let’s give her a warm welcome.”

Clap clap clap…

As applause broke out, everyone’s eyes turned to the classroom door. A new student always sparked some curiosity.

But when that figure walked in,

Within seconds, the class fell silent again, even more effective than Old Xu. Luo Su instinctively pressed against the wall, hiding the tear in her uniform. “How… could it be her?!”

“So pretty.”

Someone murmured softly.

Scattered laughter rippled through the classroom.

The new transfer student was indeed eye-catching—a girl with shoulder-length, silky hair, a porcelain face, and clear, deer-like eyes, like a doll straight out of a fairy tale.

But only Luo Su knew,

Beneath that sweet exterior hid a little thug.

“Thank you, everyone.”

Her cheeks flushed lightly, fingers unconsciously twirling the ends of her hair, her voice soft as a feather. “My name is Jiang Ning. Please take care of me.”

Without a school uniform, she stood out even more.

Her brown coat accentuated her swan-like neck, paired with a pure white shirt adorned with pearl accessories, glimmering softly in the sunlight.

Of course, the real showstopper was her face—every contour seemed meticulously crafted by a deity, even the breeze slipping through the window lingering on her fluttering lashes.

“Ahem!”

Gao Ye, who’d snuck back in through the back door at some point, whispered, “I’ve decided, Jiang Ning is my new goddess!”

“…”

Luo Su took her backpack back, rolling her eyes. “Pathetic.”

“Just kidding…”

Gao Ye scratched the back of his head with a sheepish grin. “But she’s really pretty, and her clothes look expensive. Why would a rich girl like her come to our rundown school?”

“Who knows…”

Luo Su muttered under her breath, “Female thug.”

“Alright, I’m heading back.” Gao Ye dropped to the floor, crawling toward the far-right side of the classroom. Luo Su wanted to say, “Class hasn’t even started yet!”

But it was kinda funny.

She secretly recorded it with her phone. Another black mark for her best bud!

Originally, Gao Ye sat next to Luo Su, but their chatterbox chemistry was too explosive…

“Then, Jiang Ning, you’ll sit…”

Old Xu scanned the classroom, spotting the only empty seat, his mouth twitching slightly as he pointed to the left. “Next to Luo Su, in that empty seat.”

“Luo Su?”

Jiang Ning blinked, noticing the only empty seat was beside the guy she’d seen on the bus yesterday.

She walked over.

Luo Su: “…”

No way, even if it was the only empty seat in the class, they couldn’t just throw her into the tiger’s den!

[After all, that was originally Gao Ye’s spot.]

“Hold on.”

Luo Su sighed, accepting reality.

“What’s up?” The thug’s voice was annoyingly pleasant. Luo Su sighed again, pulling all the books out of the neighboring desk.

“All set.”

“Thanks.”

Luo Su lowered her head, organizing her books. If she didn’t know what this thug did in her dream, she’d probably be thrilled.

To think, such a cute little loli like her wasn’t spared!

Ugh… lock her up.

Jiang Ning was puzzled. This was the first peer who avoided her so blatantly, practically wearing her dislike on her face.

Oh… there was one other.

That cute girl from yesterday’s dream! She kept saying she was sixteen, not a kid to be bullied…

But she was just too fun!

Jiang Ning was in a great mood. If she could dream of her again tonight… last night was such a shame.

“Phew…”

Luo Su’s body shivered lightly, feeling like some terrifying thing had locked onto her. So scary.

“Alright, everyone, study quietly!”

Old Xu nodded, not forgetting to add, “Luo Su, your uniform’s torn. Bring it to my office after school, and I’ll sew it for you.”

“Y-yes, sir!”

Luo Su was floored. Old Xu, I misjudged you! From now on, if you say one, I won’t dare go two. You’re my great mentor, my debt to you is endless!

Jiang Ning glanced over instinctively. “…”

It felt oddly familiar. That uniform looked like the one the little girl in her dream was wearing, with a weird pattern on the back collar.

This morning,

She’d spent ages researching to find out that the pattern was Sasuke’s Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan from Naruto

She stood up, wanting to sneak a peek.

Luo Su saw her, immediately pressing against the wall and leaning left. Holy crap! This thug didn’t even spare guys?!

“…”

Jiang Ning blinked innocently, growing more certain that Luo Su was hiding something. On the bus last night, she’d stared at that glass for ages…

She definitely hadn’t seen wrong!
