Chapter 47:World 2 Weird Campus 15

Xu Nian had no time for Shen Musi.

“What’s with the dawdling? Move.”

Qi Dong shoved forward, trying to push Xu Nian aside. Xu Nian dodged, pulling Shen Musi with her.

Shen Musi’s gaze darkened, her expression unreadable as she stared at Qi Dong from Xu Nian’s arms.

Qi Dong, missing her mark, walked awkwardly inside, Yuan Shen trailing, bound by their chain. She glanced up, saw the corpse, and screamed, “Ah!”

She stumbled back into Yuan Shen’s arms, who stood frozen, shocked.

“Zhang… Zhang San?!” Qi Ye gasped.

Their companion was gone, taking his secrets with him.

Qi Dong leaned into Yuan Shen, feigning frailty, her cunning eyes flashing with malice.

Fewer people knowing certain secrets, the better.

Yuan Shen, pained, pulled her aside, avoiding the body.

Qi Ye, spotting Zhang San’s corpse, recoiled. “How did he die?”

No one dared approach. Xu Nian patted Shen Musi, who reluctantly left her embrace.

Xu Nian examined the body closely. Neatly dressed, its eerie smile and wounds suggested a supernatural death, not human.

Yuan Shen and Qi Dong exchanged a look, understanding each other. Yuan Shen spoke, “Last night, we heard multiple door openings from Zhang San’s room.”

“What kind of door openings?”

Ran Feng, late, pushed open the door under everyone’s gaze.

“Why’re you staring?” he asked, puzzled.

“Zhang San’s dead,” Yuan Shen said.

“He’s dead?” Ran Feng glanced at the body, unsurprised. “Good riddance.”

“You suspect me?” he scoffed, incredulous. “On what grounds?”

Everyone knew why—his conflict with Zhang San yesterday, plus their chained proximity made him the obvious suspect.

Yuan Shen pressed, eyes sharp, “Where were you last night? Why’s your chain undone?”

Under pressure, Ran Feng admitted reluctantly, “We were chased by a ghost to the dorms. Found pliers, cut our chain. He left after that and never returned.”

Qi Dong, leaning weakly on Yuan Shen, added, “We heard three door openings, not one.”

“If Zhang San left and died, how do you explain the other two?” Yuan Shen demanded.

Ran Feng frowned, caught off guard by their detail, words stuck in his throat.

Taking a deep breath, he said, “Fine, truth is, I went out last night. Saw a blonde woman, acting strange, hurrying off. I followed her, lost her at a corner, then came back.”

Blonde woman!

Xu Nian’s expression flickered, ears perked as he continued.

“But,” Ran Feng pivoted, “when I returned, I saw Qi Ye skulking outside.”

Qi Ye’s eyes darted. “Peak Bro, don’t lie! I… didn’t go out…”

He looked too guilty.

All eyes turned to him, awaiting an explanation.

Qi Ye opened his mouth but said nothing.

“Why were you so focused on the doors? Counting openings next door?” Shen Musi asked suddenly.

Her question shifted suspicion to Yuan Shen and Qi Dong. Xu Nian noticed, glancing at her. Shen Musi flashed a sweet smile.

Ran Feng’s eyes lit up. “Wait, did you kill Zhang San to frame me?”

“He was our ally! Why would we? You, a stranger, think you can lead us to clear this?” Qi Dong’s eyes blazed, pointing at Ran Feng, a far cry from her earlier fragility.

Yuan Shen tugged her, pointing at the time. Less than two minutes to class.

“Let’s deal with this after class.”

Qi Dong snorted, shaking him off, strutting to her seat.

Yuan Shen, annoyed, followed.

They returned to yesterday’s seats, waiting for class.

Qi Ye, rattled by their clash, regretted not sticking with Xu Nian. Her refusal to join Ran Feng’s team seemed wise now. Ran Feng kept using him as a shield.

He understood everything but lacked the spine to resist, letting others walk over him.

He looked at Xu Nian and Shen Musi, whispering closely, with complex emotions.

Shen Musi leaned to Xu Nian’s ear. “Deskmate, who’s lying?”

Xu Nian met her gaze, calm. “All of them.”

Shen Musi’s eyes curved, her smile like spring sunlight. “Would you lie?”

“Of course.”

Xu Nian was honest, hoping Shen Musi would dislike her. No one liked liars.

“That ‘I hate you’—was that a lie?”

“No.”

Shen Musi’s smile deepened. “That’s a lie, right?”

Her eyes gleamed with a familiar, possessive intensity. “Liars… are very naughty.”

Xu Nian’s heart skipped.

How could two different people feel so similar?

What was Shen Musi to the Young Lady?

Lost for words, Xu Nian caught a figure flashing by the window. Her blood froze, heart pounding, her theories crumbling.

Outside, a blonde figure with cascading curls to her waist passed—the Young Lady’s unmistakable silhouette.

Xu Nian shot up, chasing after her, heedless of all else.
