Chapter 85: Why am I so unlucky (Part 2)
“Negotiations are done. I’ve contacted the family, and clearance has been granted. We’ll board a transport train heading back in half an hour. We’ll also arrange how you’ll get to Nosend City, Su Mengmeng. Leave it all to us, so don’t worry.”
Carter returned and spoke to me calmly.
“So, our mission and assessment are complete?”
Daniel, hearing Carter, frowned slightly and asked.
“Mission and assessment?”
I blinked, thinking that since Carter and the others were still students, their trip to Blackshine City was likely part of a combat assessment for the Royal First Academy.
“That doesn’t matter now. Our mission has shifted to escorting Su Mengmeng to Academy City.”
Carter stated plainly, “With pharmacists in short supply, a high-tier pharmacist like her can be a huge asset to our families. Your families agreed to prioritize her escort, and the academy shouldn’t have any issues either.”
Carter explained slowly, and I let out a sigh of relief.
Looks like I’ve secured a solid backer.
If I can smoothly reach Academy City, I’ll finally start my peaceful life of earning money and raising my egg babies!
My past life’s memories are fuzzy, but I know it was full of turmoil.
Now, I’m a bit tired and just want to quietly hatch my two egg babies.
With a noble squad guarding me, what’s there to worry about?
I sat in my spot, thinking轻松ly.
“Su Mengmeng, any issues?”
“…None. I’ll follow your arrangements.”
“Alright, let’s rest for the next half hour.”
After briefly outlining the squad’s next steps, Carter asked me, and I nodded in response.
Then, hugging my backpack with the two egg babies, I waited with the noble squad for the return train.
During this wait, everything seemed calm, and with a rare moment of peace today, I couldn’t help but feel drowsy.
So, clutching my backpack, I dozed off on a bench—until a loud “whoo-whoo” jolted me awake.
I looked toward the platform and saw a black-and-red locomotive pulling over a dozen cars, slowly coming to a stop.
I stood, ready to board with the noble squad, but noticed we weren’t the only ones leaving—many others were grabbing their luggage to board as well.
“Let’s go.”
Katherine glanced at the stopped train, turned to me with a smile, and spoke.
I nodded, slung my backpack with the egg babies over my shoulder, and prepared to follow Carter and the others toward the train.
But after just a few steps, a sudden, intense sense of danger hit me.
My face paled, and in the next moment, like the noble squad members, I dove for the nearest cover without hesitation.
“BOOM—”
In an instant, the train, perfectly stationary on the platform, was blasted apart.
Heavy cars flipped from the impact of shells, and the locomotive exploded, sending countless steel shards tearing through everyone nearby.
Then, a series of whistling sounds followed one after another.
