Vol2 Chapter 30: You mean..
“Long time no see, Chisei. How’ve you been?”
Angers stepped off the plane, a brilliant smile on his face, dressed in a sleek black suit with a vibrant red rose in his pocket, puffing on a cigar.
His expensive handmade leather shoes clacked against the ground.
“Doing well, Principal,” Chisei Gen bowed respectfully. Years had passed, but the Principal remained unchanged.
Chisei always respected the strong. If you weren’t strong enough, you’d better keep your head down and show reverence, admiration, or even fear toward your seniors—like lighting their cigarette.
But Angers was undeniably strong. Last century, he’d crushed Japan’s hybrids into submission.
“You look drained. Want to grab a meal?” Angers grinned. “I’m always happy to treat my students to a feast.”
Chisei Gen, now with the mature air of a man yet retaining a boyish charm, carried visible exhaustion in his brow. He didn’t seem in high spirits.
According to the Japan Branch’s reports to headquarters, Japan was a hybrid utopia—harmless, with no rogue hybrid incidents or Deadpool sightings in a year, just minor hybrid-related injuries. In such peaceful conditions, as Executive Director, Chisei should be bored, not exhausted.
“No need, Principal. I’ve eaten. What brings you here?”
“Just checking in, and to give you a warning,” Angers said lightly, as if it were trivial. “In recent years, the Japan Branch has grown restless, showing less and less regard for headquarters.”
“What do you mean, Principal?”
“Your last annual report claimed zero rogue hybrid incidents and zero Deadpool discoveries, just a few minor injuries. Japan, with its native hybrids and over a hundred million people—how could it be so calm? That report is an insult to intelligence.” Angers placed a hand on Chisei’s shoulder. “Do you think I’m a fool, Director Gen?”
His gaze was sharp, piercing through Chisei’s thoughts. “Did you really think I don’t know what the Japan Branch is up to?” His voice turned low and serious, like a lion’s growl.
“You think those ‘zero incidents’ and ‘zero Deadpools’ can fool anyone?”
Chisei stiffened, lifting his gaze, a flicker of complex emotion in his eyes. “Principal, the Japan Branch has always worked to uphold headquarters’ interests. Everything we do is for the peace and order of the hybrid world.”
“Peace and order?” Angers scoffed, a glint of mockery in his eyes. “You think peace is possible in Japan? Your ambitions and desires have never waned. The Japan Branch is just deluding itself.”
Chisei’s brow furrowed, feeling the weight of Angers’ dissatisfaction and accusations. He took a deep breath, steadying himself. “Principal, we’ve actively managed all situations, using special methods and strategies to ensure headquarters’ authority and interests remain intact.”
“Special methods and strategies?” Angers’ voice carried a cold laugh. “You think I don’t know about the Japan Branch’s little schemes? Secret deals with hybrids, special training programs for young hybrids—did you think you could hide that from me?”
Chisei’s face paled. He hadn’t expected Angers to know so much. He lowered his head, silent.
Angers studied him, a mix of emotions in his eyes. “Chisei, you’re a smart kid. Headquarters has high hopes for you. But if you keep this up, the Japan Branch will become a liability. Understand?”
Chisei looked up. “Principal, I understand your concerns. I’ll immediately investigate all Japan Branch activities and report the truth. I promise the branch will return to headquarters’ proper path.”
Angers smiled faintly, patting Chisei’s shoulder. “Good. I’ll wait for your report. But, Chisei, remember—headquarters has zero tolerance for betrayal or disloyalty. Don’t disappoint me again.”
Chisei nodded respectfully, but his mind churned. The Japan Branch’s affairs were far more complex than Angers realized.
“Also, you might need to come with me to Cassell tomorrow,” Angers added.
Chisei stepped back, his golden pupils locking onto Angers. As a “Royal” hybrid, his bloodline outranked Angers’. If he played all his cards… could he fight, even defeat, the Principal?
He wasn’t sure. But he wasn’t alone here. Facing Angers, he wouldn’t come unprepared.
Angers had held the title of strongest hybrid for ages—no one had shaken his position.
But the Japan Branch wasn’t what it used to be. If Angers tried to take him by force, there’d be a price to pay!
The strongest hybrid could fall here!
“Hold on, Chisei,” Angers said, smiling as he opened his suitcase. “I’d rather not fight my student.”
Chisei eyed the case warily, ready to act if it held a weapon.
The case opened, cold air spilling out. Chisei’s heart tightened, but inside wasn’t a weapon—just a small vial of blood.
“Take it, test it with your blood for a paternity match. Let me know the results. I’m off to see an old friend. See you tomorrow.” Angers grinned, vanishing in an instant.
Chisei stood stunned, unable to track Angers’ movements or when he left.
If Angers wanted him dead, it wouldn’t take much effort.
“Young Master… are you okay?” A tall, graceful girl in a suit and blouse approached, holding a handkerchief to wipe Chisei’s sweat. She carried a faint plum-blossom scent, rare among Japanese girls.
“I’m fine, Sakura,” Chisei said, taking the handkerchief to dab his forehead, then walking to the open suitcase.
…
Moonlight streamed through the window, casting silver patches on Chisei’s desk. He stared at the report, his expression complex.
You’re saying… I have a sister?
And she’s a Chinese-Japanese hybrid?
