Chapter 7: One Must Learn Restraint
“Why are you here?”
The first words out of Pei Zhanxi’s mouth upon waking were not ones Wang Yan enjoyed hearing.
“How can you say that? I was the one who brought you to the hospital, you know. You should properly thank me.”
Wang Yan stood to the side, peeling an apple.
The peel came off in one continuous strip without breaking.
Its smooth surface revealed tender white flesh beneath.
“I bought all this fruit for you.”
Wang Yan held it out for Pei Zhanxi to see.
“Big and plump. Fragrant and sweet. Look, go on, take a look.”
Pei Zhanxi examined the apple with astonishment.
That knife skill…
“See? Looks good, right?”
Wang Yan brought it even closer.
“Not only does it look good, it tastes good too.”
Right in front of her, Wang Yan took a huge bite.
“So good. Really good.”
Bite after bite, he finished it completely.
Then he pulled out a bunch of grapes.
“And there are grapes too.”
“Peaches.”
“A whole bunch of bananas.”
…
The hospital room remained silent between them.
Wang Yan chewed noisily, devouring everything.
Pei Zhanxi touched her stomach.
Suddenly, she also wanted some fruit.
But she did not want the man in front of her to know that.
After eating wildly for a while, Wang Yan was finally full.
Only then did he turn his attention back to Pei Zhanxi.
“Give me your hand.”
“Hm?”
Pei Zhanxi hesitated for a moment but still extended her fair hand from beneath the blanket.
In an instant, Wang Yan grabbed it.
Panic flashed through Pei Zhanxi’s eyes.
After struggling a few times to no avail, she had no choice but to say, “Let go of me, please.”
“No. I’m here to clear up the misunderstanding.”
Wang Yan tightly held the hand she had extended and drew it protectively to his chest.
Pei Zhanxi’s small face flushed bright red.
Flustered, she stammered, “The back of your hand—that’s mine.”
Wang Yan noticed something.
Pei Zhanxi seemed to enjoy placing the subject at the end of her sentences.
Was she from Kansai?
Had she crossed half the continent to study here?
“Classmate Pei, I don’t have any ill intentions. Look, you fell, and I was the one who brought you to the hospital.”
“The doctor said you have not only an ankle injury, but also abrasions and a head impact.”
Wang Yan smiled shyly.
“Am I really that scary?”
But Pei Zhanxi was not fully focused on his words.
Her nerves were tightly strung as she keenly felt the sensation on the back of her hand.
A man’s body.
He was so soft.
Having just regained consciousness and now stimulated like this, even the hand she had extended trembled uncontrollably.
“Are you cold?”
Wang Yan stood and pressed his forehead against hers.
“Doesn’t seem like it.”
Their eyes met at close range.
Even their breaths intertwined.
“Man… so close… you…”
Pei Zhanxi’s pupils trembled.
Before she could finish, her vision went dark and she fainted again.
Wang Yan: !
“Classmate Pei, are you alright?”
Wang Yan nervously shook her body.
There was no response at all.
He quickly pressed the call button by the bedside.
When he turned back, he saw that Pei Zhanxi seemed overheated or something—she had actually started bleeding from the nose.
Professional medical staff arrived promptly.
Wang Yan did not dare move her again.
He stepped back, leaving enough space for the staff.
And waited quietly.
After a while, the way the doctors looked at him had completely changed.
Though the earlier tension had indeed faded.
“Doctor, my classmate… uh, my friend—what exactly happened to her?”
The medical staff assured him there was no major issue.
She simply had not fully recovered yet and had been overstimulated, causing her to faint.
“Young couples who just got together being like dry wood and raging fire is normal. But she’s still in recovery. You must learn restraint.”
Wang Yan: ?
Meanwhile, behind the elderly doctor, a few others whispered quietly.
“They say the more stunning a man is, the stronger he is in that regard. Seems it’s true.”
“Looks that way. Multiple abrasions all over her body. Clearly sustained during some kind of desperate escape. Just how terrifying was that?”
